on ABC it did very good(I think consistently being #1 in it's timeslot because of Family Matters and the other TGIF shows leading it in)

It fell apart on CBS, as did Family Matters. The key audience that watched it on ABC didn't watch it on CBS and only diehard fans who really kept up with it knew it moved to CBS. Also, CBS has an older audience, and the key demo which caused SBS to be a hit wasn't there on CBS.

Step By Step was never in the top 30. But it usually won its time slot because there wasn't much else to watch on Friday nights.

Your right... I looked at the top shows from the SBS years and it was never THAT good. But, as long as it won the timeslot(or came in strong), it would stay. I still think CBS killed it and Family Matters both. ABC should have NEVER let it go.

You have to remember... Friday Night was one of the lower viewing nights of the week(people out doing other things)

They tried moving the show to Tuesday Nights at 8:30pm in the fall of 1992 but it couldn't compete with RESCUE 911 on CBS

I loved Rescue 911 on CBS and Unsolved Mysteries on NBC(which competed with Family Matters and Boy Meets World in the 8pm slot starting in 1994, which sucked) Until then, it was on Wednesday at 8pm. I always liked watching real-life crimes and stuff. Murders, Unexplained deaths.

Bottom line... SBS wasn't a big hit, but was good enough to last 7 years.

1991-1992
Family Matters #27
Step by Step #58
(Step by Step's first premiere on ABC was #67, a total let down, and was almost cancelled until aired again where it did much better)

1992-1993
Family Matters #30
Step by Step #43

1993-1994
Family Matters #32
Boy Meets World #45
Step by Step #44

1994-1995
Family Matters #34
Boy Meets World #36
Step by Step #39

1995-1996
Family Matters #42
Boy Meets World #48
Step By Step #54

1996-1997
Step by Step #61
Family Matters #50
Boy Meets World #51

1997-1998 (CBS)
Family Matters #67
Boy Meets World (ABC) #53
Step by Step #71

That's all I could get but let met el you that the first two seasons is approximately what the ratings were according to chez.com

As you can see, Family Matters and Step by Step did horrible on CBS and got the ax, but I wonder if that was CBS's whole point for picking these shows up. I mean, both shows were doing fine on ABC as TGIF shows, and then CBS picks up the show and drops Step by Step after only 19 episodes. As for winning its timeslot, it never did better than Family Matters, so I'm not sure about that one.
