Default If You Had to . . .

If you had a friend with you that never saw NewsRadio before and they agreed to watch three episodes with you, which three would you choose to impress your friend? This of course assuming that you would hang out with someone who hadn't seen NewsRadio. I'd choose:

"Pilot" It would give the friend a chance to see Dave's first day, and afterall it impressed me since it was the first episode I ever saw.

"Smoking" This episode is just hilarious. It also is the first time Dave and Bill really interact.

"Planbee" This episode shows just how much the staff really cares about one another. The lengths they all go through to keep Matthew from getting fired. When Andrea mentioned Bill, Dave got nervous thinking she wanted to fire him. It's just a great episode in my opinion.

Only three episodes? Hmmm, I'll have to think about this one. There are so many great episodes to choose from. I agree with Smoking being one of their best.

Well let's think aloud. We can rule out season five. There were a couple of good ones, but "NewsRadio" to me is with both Bill and Catherine in the cast. So that's episodes 1-60. I'll do my 2 favorites from each season:

1. "Smoking" & "Sweeps Week"

2. "The Breakup" & "In Through the Out Door"

3. "Our Fiftieth Episode" & "Sleeping"

4. "Planbee" & "French Diplomacy"

Out of all of those, I would go with these 3,
"Smoking" & "In Through the Out Door" & "Planbee"

Out of those 3, I would go with these 2,
"Smoking" & "Planbee"

Okay, I'd go with "Smoking"

Wasn't that a fun experience?

But seriously, I think any one of those episodes does the show justice. Although "Our Fiftieth Episode" had Matthew in only one scene. "Sleeping" was without Beth. And "French Diplomacy" was without Catherine. Those were all well made episodes, anyways.

Smoking is one of my favorites. I also love the one with the poker game and the one when they're all daydreaming. I think there are so many great episodes.

Jimmy: "I lost... Bill."
Bill: "What?"
Jimmy: "Bill."
Bill: "Right here, Jimmy."
Jimmy: "I don't think you're understanding me. I lost Bill!"

I didn't care for a lot of the episodes in the last season, especially the hippie episode.

The only episode I really don't like is "Movie Star". I don't care for the James Caan scenes. Catherine and Beth fighting for some basketball tickets didn't get me laughing. The only saving grace of this episode was the plot about Dave buying Lisa a TV set. The rest I like.

Also,

Matthew: Mr. James

Mr. James: Present.

Matthew: Buttafuoco.

Mr. James: Well, Buttafuoco to you too, and if you had said it that way this morning on the air, we wouldn't have lost two sponsors.

Even when I was out of NewsRadio in 1997, I still remembered that Buttafuoco joke fondly. Thank goodness I'm back into the show now.
