Exclamation Faith The Vampire Slayer

I don't know if this is true but I'm posting it anyways. It's from BBC News.

Buffy 'to live on with new star'

Gellar is leaving Buffy to concentrate on her film career

Cult TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer will continue with a new star when lead actress Sarah Michelle Gellar departs, according to reports.
Eliza Dushku, who has already appeared in the show as Faith, will take over from Gellar who is leaving to pursue her film career, according to the Express newspaper.

Dushku will reportedly keep the role of moody Faith, rather than becoming the new Buffy.

The move would leave the door open for Gellar to come back and make the occasional cameo appearance.

It has not yet been announced when Gellar will leave the series.

Before taking over, Dushku is set to to appear alongside Gellar in the final three episodes of the current series, which is shown on Sky One on Thursdays.

The show's producers had looked at several different options before settling on 22-year-old Dushku, said the paper.

Other ideas considered included making Buffy's younger sister Dawn the main star.

Gellar decided to leave the show last summer to concentrate on her film career.

She has already starred in the live action film Scooby-Doo, alongside husband Freddie Prinze Jr, and Cruel Intentions.

Gellar made her name with Buffy, which has become one of the most popular teenage TV shows worldwide.

She built up a cult following as a high school student with supernatural powers to hunt down and dispatch vampires.

Dushku is not nearly as well known. She was discovered at the end of a five-month search throughout the United State to play the lead role of Alice opposite Juliette Lewis in the film That Night.

She has appeared in several films and has worked alongside the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro and Ellen Barkin.

Ah, I should've looked at the Buffy board before I PM'd you, Chris.

Well, I'm happy that Eliza is taking over. I'm sad that Sarah is leaving, but Eliza is pretty good. I would def. watch a show that invovled Faith. I can't say I would watch it if Dawn became the main one. I take that back. I really enjoy the other regulars, so I would prob. watch it mainly for them if they had went with the Dawn idea.

Well is this reliable? Could it happen? I don't know which websites lie and which websites are correct.

Bosses signal 'end of Buffy'

Buffy is now in its seventh series

Hit fantasy TV drama Buffy The Vampire Slayer could be coming to an end soon, US network bosses have hinted.
The seven-year-old show, which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, has suffered from poor ratings since it moved channels in 2001, from the WB network to UPN.

CBS chief Leslie Moonves, who is responsible for UPN, said the future for writer and producer Joss Whedon's show was uncertain, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"I wouldn't bet that it comes back, but it's possible," said Mr Moonves.

He said several options were being discussed for the future of the show, which is now in its seventh series, including a spin-off.

Decision

There has already been one spin-off, Angel, but that has stayed on the WB network.

Mr Moonves said Buffy star Gellar had yet to make a decision on whether she wanted to quit her role as the Californian vampire slayer.

It is widely thought she will leave the show to concentrate on a career in the movies.

She has already starred in the live action film Scooby-Doo, alongside husband Freddie Prinze Jr, and Cruel Intentions.

Mr Moonves stressed that no more money would be made available for the show, with UPN already splashing out more than $2.4m (£1.4m) per episode.

UPN - which stands for United Paramount Network - poached the show from Warner Bros-run WB in order to boost viewers for the struggling cable network.

The youth-orientated channel continues to lose money for its parent company Viacom but bosses are confident the channel is "turning the corner", partly thanks to its coverage of WWE wrestling.

Buffy is shown on Sky One and BBC Two in the UK, while Angel is screened by Sky One and Channel 4.

This is great (if it's true)! I always wished it would happen, but I thought to myself, "Melissa, they're never gonna do a Faith spinoff, she's not that popular."

Boy, was I wrong. I found that out when I came here.

Anyways, I'm hoping this is true. If it is, my second hope is that it succeeds and isn't another spinoff failure story.

I hope it's true, also. I found a news piece at imdb.com stating basically the same thing about a Faith spin off, but you never know if it's reliable or not.

I think Faith would do a great job in her own show.

Btw, I like the Faith pics in your sig, SF.

I hope it's true. Buffy's story has become so dark in recent years. It would be nice to see a Buffy spin-off on a lighter note, atleast at first.
In the meantime, I'll stick with the early episodes of Buffy.

Last I saw of Faith, though, she was in a coma and I didn't have such a high opinion of her. So I don't know...

Buffy is better dark and gothic. I love these past few seasons. Evil Willow was a kick ass villain, I hope we get to see her again.

I always liked Faith, but no Buffy? I don't know. That'll take some getting used to.

If you don't want to know what happens to Faith after the coma... then don't read the following
...

Faith wakes up out of her coma and switches bodies with Buffy... then she next appeared on Angel. Angel talked her into redemption, and now Faith's in jail paying for her crimes. So apparently when Faith comes back, she'll be good.

Cool! I saw the one where they were switched the other day. I wish Angel would reach me! If this keeps up I may have to risk buying the DVDs or VHS, not knowing if they will be good. Or I could rent them. Yes, that would probably work out better...

I'd like to see some of the early Angel episodes too. They don't rerun any of the early years over here and the Angel DVD commericials are about to make me cave in. I'm seriously thinking about buying the Angel set after I buy the Buffy 1 and 3 DVDs. It would make so much more sense to rent the Angel eps and kind of save money because I'd hate to spend money on something that I thought I would like, but didn't.
