Sanford and Son DVD Question, Please Reply! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

To anyone that has the Second Season on DVD.

At the 9:02 mark of the "Blood Is Thicker Than Junk" episode (Disc 1, Episode 2) there seems to be a couple minutes chopped off between the time Lamont is in the office and the guy says to him, "Not as long as we can find you a job right up your alley. Okay?" Right after that it switches to Fred telling his new partner, "You can start to work in the morning."

I just wonder if someone has experienced this as well.

I don't have the DVD, but how long is that particular episode on the DVD you have? If it's 24 minutes or more, chances are it's unedited. If it's less than that than it may be an edited episode with some scenes cut out.

Then I will say it again...

To anyone that HAS, has as in "I DO have the DVD", to reply to this message in response to my question posted earlier about the couple minutes cut off in which Fred's new partner comes in and he introduces himself and helps Fred lift some chest or something he had laying around there, I remember seeing it on TV Land, Fred having trouble moving this thing and the guy who he had not hired yet lifted it with ease, I don't remember too much after that except having a little conversation between the two.

So, again, to anyone that HAS the DVD of Sanford and Son: The Second Season please respond and again it happens at the 9:02 mark of the "Blood Is Thicker Than Junk" episode. I know it's missing because the episode instead of being 25 minutes is now 22 minutes. So please reply if you have experienced this as well, and if you do not have the DVD, don't respond.

It's a known fact that one of the episodes on the 2nd season dvd is edited, I read it on the Home Theatre Forum.

most dvd episodes are edited. the one your refering to is. lamont actually tears the pencil in half and tosses it on the guys desk.

why are they edited? is it some stupid gimmick to sell them and then come out with a "special edition" or some junk to make us buy them again?

No, they wouldn't do that. They just used the syndication version instead. I just brought this topic up to just discuss this, but it's so small that it doesn't matter anymore, it's not like they cut the biggest joke in the history of Sanford & Dummy (Son). If anyone doesn't have this DVD and is worried about this post, don't be, don't put off your enjoyment of watching Sanford & Son in the greatest quality possible because not only would you be starving yourself of the best comedy but it would be plain stupid. Would you want to have Fred G. Sanford come to your doorstep, knock on the door and yell, "Open up, you big dummy", and then give you one across the lip? Didn't think so!

i understand your reasoning but i don't agree with it.
there is no reason why they should be edited. there is no excuse. just as there is no excuse for them editing, voiceovers, split screen, and all the other junk on tv.
editing these dvd's is just like my big question about cable tv or satellite: since i am paying for this channel, why do i have commercials? and don't even tell me they need commercial time to stay on the air. that's what i am paying for. so they get my money and then sponsors money and they get all the profits. then i get watered down, edited,split screened crap popping all over the screen to where i can't even enjoy watching anything.
now you tell me that now i can't even pay for the episodes and get them complete? no. i see your point but i disagree. if i'm paying for it, i should get it all complete.

and before anybody wants to be dumb and tell me to not pay for the chanels, i will say this, i can cancel all that stuff and have no tv. and they will not miss me at all. one person does not make a difference. it will take a LOT of us to boycot these channels to make them quit this junk. but that won't happen because people are too sorry to stand up for anything they believe in unless they are of certain ethnic group or gay. they stand up for what they believe and get things done. nobody else does.

So true. Don't forget pop up bugs, also. See the E! pop up advertisement for the Anna Nicole Show and FX and the pop up dice/ slot machine noise for Lucky.

I'm pretty sick of the crap myself. I used to be a big tv watcher, but I rarely watch tv anymore. I just got sick of the crappy schedules and all the things you listed, bry. Hell, how much show do we actually see? It seems to me that commericials are just getting longer and longer. Do we get 15-20 minutes of actual show and 10 minutes for commericials for a 30 min. show?

I agree as well but you see,

1. The episode is 22 minutes, most of the episode is still there and you don't miss much in between that missing time. TV Land is only showing about 15 minutes.

2. The DVD is called "Sanford and Son: The Second Season". Do you see the word 'complete' in that title?

3. Only one episode of the entire 24 is about 5 minutes shorter, atleast it's only one episode.

4. Columbia/Tri-Star DVD is not going to reissuse it just because they used a syndication version of the episode. Now if the discs are defective then that's another thing.

I understand you all and agree but I just wanted to tell facts and those are the facts.

i too, rarely watch tv anymore. i have it on to have it on, not to watch anything. there's nothing to watch. and if there is, i can't enjoy it.

I thought all episodes on DVD was uncut?

NOT THE SECOND SEASON DVD. THE FIRST SEASON DVD READS" THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON"...THE SECOND DVD JUST SAYS" THE SECOND SEASON" LEAVING ROOM FOR EDIT TIMES.

If it's 24 minutes or more, chances are it's unedited. If it's less than that than it may be an edited episode with some scenes cut out.
