Cool Anyone else disabled?

Is anyone else here disabled or know someone with a disability?

I have coloboma. It's a rare eye condition that caused my eyes to not form right. One of my eyes had to be removed because it was so deformed and the pupil of my other eye is shaped funny. I can only see a small amount out of my left eye and I'm over-sensitive to light, especially outdoors. There are also secondary characteristics, like impairments in hearing, speech, development, and some motor skils. (All of which I have.)

I used to get picked on a lot in school. I hated myself for being disabled. Now, I accept my disabilities and limitations. If people won't accept me for who I am, then that's their problem, not mine.

That's great that you can accept your disabilities.I have what I guess you might consider a disability, because it keeps me from living the kind of life I want.I have some type of "mystery illness",that the Drs. have never found out the cause of.I feel terribly a lot of times and I have various symptoms - too many to go into.It may be something like Fibromyalgia and it sure sucks

I don't know if it is coloboma, but my neice has a deformity of one her pupils...but none of the other sx's you talked about...

I have several friends who are deaf...

I have a friend who has cerebral palsy, it affects his left side and they told him he couldn't drive a stick shift because of it, but they forgot to put that on his license, and he does great driving a stick...haha

I have heart problems, I have actually have surgery already, but I don't let it get me down either... I do what I want when I want...I know my limitations,

My advice to anyone is just be educated... ask questions... and be an active participant in your healthcare...

I'm not, but I know people who are. A friend of mine has cerebral palsy, and so does my other friend's sister. And before she died, my aunt was in a wheelchair b/c her leg was amputated.

Its very nice that you feel that way about yourself. Honestly noone else's opinion about you shall matter. Unless its a nice one. People in this world today can be terrible. But one day and I mean it will happen.... they will get what they deserve, and I have lived by that my whole life.

And everyone has a disablity wether they can see it or not..... nobody is perfect. So stick with that attitude... its people like you that make this world a better place. Stay strong.

I have what's called "amblyopia" - (sp?) - which is a fancy word for 'lazy eye.'

Nothing huge, except that my brain ignores about 80% of the images taken in by my left eye. I have very little depth perception, also, because of it.

Not too huge, but it does get me down when people tease.

While I wouldn't call it a disability, I am autistic but very high functioning. I remember when I was little, I wouldn't talk very much and when I did, it was either nonsense or it was lines from movies. I had trouble in elementary school but mostly during the early years (K-2). I had very few friends and usually those were people who wanted to be my friend. I wasn't very good on making friends. After years of therapy, I am now more outgoing, I have a lot of friends (most of them being on these boards), and I am getting very high grades in school. Yesterday I found out that I was one of two valedictorians at my school for the whole first semester.

(so my eye kinda rolls up like a lazy eye) Like Kristen I can see very little out of that eye. I need glasses for my eye with glocoma. I'll always ahve to wear em for protection. sigh. Well it's not exactly a disability but I used to have trichotillomania.. which was very annoying. I still have urges but I keep them under control. I had it for years but I can credit my sweetie for getting me to stop.
