LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- "The Santa Clause" star Tim Allen is in negotiations with Paramount to develop and star in the studio's remake of "Father Knows Best" and is in early discussions with the Walt Disney Co. about a potential two-picture deal that would include another installment of the successful "Santa" franchise.
The "Father" remake, which is being developed by Paramount and Nickelodeon, is based on the classic 1950s television series that starred Robert Young. The exact plot of the big-screen remake is unclear, though a draft was penned by Bob Hilgenberg and Rob Muir in 2000. That draft, which is likely to undergo some rewrites in the coming months, centers on a child who enters his dad in a father-of-the-year contest and lies about his credentials. When he wins, the man pledges to tell the truth -- until the woman giving the prize turns out to be a beauty, and the father decides to keep up the ruse in order to woo the perfect mother into the fold. Gary Foster ("Daredevil") will produce "Father" with Allen's Boxing Cat Prods. The Disney deal, which is still in the early stages, would bring Allen back for a follow-up to the November hit "The Santa Clause 2," which has earned nearly $150 million for the studio. The other film in which Allen would star for the studio has not been determined. In addition to the "Santa" films, Allen has starred in such projects as "Toy Story" and "Big Trouble" for Disney. He has worked with Paramount on the Paramount Classics release "Who Is Cletis Tout?" Allen is repped by WMA and Messina Baker Entertainment. |

BW,
You're absolutely right. We may get a DVD release as a result of this travesty. Or perhaps some good station -- NOT TV Land -- will pick up FKB and show all 203 episodes, in order. Thanks for the silver lining.

I wonder why Hollywood is so wrong nowadays. I wonder how can they can feel proud of producing stuff like American Beauty or Pleasantville (which insults 50s values). The Father Knows Best remake also seems to have an "updated" view of family...
I wonder if this is what american moviegoers really want to watch... this would explain Hollywood's direction. The dreams factory is dead for me. Nowadays cinema no longer makes me dream. It succeeds in irritating me, though. |
