Default Aristede and the Count

What does everyone think about Michael Stroka as Aristede and Thayer David as Count Petofi [aka Victor Fenn-Gibbon]?

I like the characters. They seem very interesting, and I'm looking forward to the second half of 1897. I can definately see why this was the highest rated period for DS.

When I saw Thayer as a new character I knew right away Sandor was dead.

I think Aristede looks like Barnabas a little imo. Are they related in real life?

I felt bad for Magda when Julianka cursed her. I liked Julianka, but I thought it was mean to do that to Magda. First her 'big fat hero' Sandor, than her nephew.

Michael Stroka and Jonathan Frid are not related to one another.

I thought it was funny when the hand came out of the fire and started chasing after Magda! Poor Magda...

Oh and Count Petofi (aka Victor Fenn-Gibbon)!!!!!!!! He triple-slapped Aristede!!!!!!!!!! I rewinded that over and over again! First Erica Kane says "She's playing you, Boyd, she's playing you." and then VFG slapps Aristede!

LOL! Ermsies VFG/Petofi is great. And I like Jamison when he's possessed by him. I loved what he did to Edward and Charity.

I'm gonna dance for you
Dance your cares away

And other lines that involve Nancy Barrett shaking her money-maker. Pansy Faye is hilarious, especially as done by the short NB! I'm really loving DS right now!

Nancy Barrett is great when she's possessed by Charity. It would've been great if they did that with Charity from the beginning of the storyline. I'm enjoying her character a lot more than I did before.

I don't see a resemblance bettween FRid and Stroka, myself. But both actors are probably German in origin so maybe they look a bit alike for that reason. Nancy Barrett is an excellent actress. NO doubt!

Back when Stroka first appeared he looked like Barnabas imo. But now, as his role as Bruno, he is totally different.

I see no resemblance between the two men, Chris. In NO WAY AT NO TIME (forgive the double negative)! But like I said I think they're both German so maybe.

Sorry to disagree, but I see MUCH resemblance between Michael Stroka (as Aristede) and Jonathan Frid!!! They could be brothers (with Frid the older brother). In fact, I can recall when Stroka debuted on Dark Shadows in 1969 -- and I mean his very first appearance -- that myself, my Mom and my sister were all shocked by the close resemblance, and even wondered if Dan Curtis had cast a relative of Jonathan Frid for the part of Aristede. Though the credits showed the last name "Stroka" and not "Frid", we still believed he might be a nephew (or something) of Frid's. Nowadays, of course, we know differently, but I can't believe anyone doesn't notice the resemblance. They are virtual lookalikes. Barnabas appears in Aristede's 2nd episode, where Aristede leads the gypsy girl to the Old House, seeking Magna, but she finds Barnabas instead. Then right after that scene Quentin as a werewolf attacks Aristede in the woods. On DVD one can easily REV or FF between the scenes, and see how much the two men look like each other. It's still startling!

Jonathan Frid's family was Scottish and Michael Stroka's family was Czeck.

Thayer David and Micheal Stroka were definitely channeling Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre from the Maltese Falcon

The characters of Petofi and Aristede were added due to the fact that the time period's ratings had been so high; the storyline lasted twice as long as originally imtended.
