What is the best decade for TV Sitcoms in your opinion? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In my opinion, I think the 1970's was the best decade for TV sitcoms. You have some true classics. All in the Family, Alice, Maude, Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son, Laverne and Shirley, and Three's Company. I realized that most the episodes I have in my collection are from 70's TV sitcoms and only one from the 80's. What decade is the best to you for TV comedy?

I agree. The 1970s were the best decade for sitcoms. The 1960s were the second best followed by the 80s, the 50s, and the 90s.

The 50s had a few good shows. The 60s had quite a few good shows. The 70s had a lot of great shows. The 80s had a few good shows. Yeah, so basically the 50s- the 80s.

The only show I like from the 50's is the HoneyMooners and he from the 80's is the Cosby Show. I don't like no shows from the 60's, but from the 70's i like

I have to go with the 60's first. I think there are alot of younger posters here that probably don't really have a good feel for all the shows that were produced then. I mean, I'm only 37, so when I say young I'm talking teens or early 20's.

But if you look at the 60's, some of the all time greats came out of that decade. For instance:

The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Mary Tyler Moor Show
The Andy Griffith Show
The Flintstones

Those four are considered absolute classics! And along with those, there are shows like:

Bewitched
Addam's Family
I Dream of Jeannie
The Munsters
Gilligan's Island
Hogan's Heroes
The Lucy Show
My Three Sons

Those shows were also considered near classics, and there are probably plenty of folks who would say to me, "What do mean 'near' classics?!! They are classics!"

So I have to give my vote to the 60's first, then probably a tie between the 70's and 50's (which produced at least 4 clear classics), and then the 80's (which also had a nice run with shows like Cosby, Family Ties, and Cheers). Forget the 90's or anything this century, IMHO.

A tie between the 60s and 70s. I can't decide between the two. The 50s was okay, but I hate the 80s.

"Mary Tyler Moore" was from the '70's, not the '60's. Just FYI.

Yep, my bad. I think it just did sneak in under the gun, correct? In other words, didn't it begin in 1970? Or was it later? I know it was early 70's for sure.

I was born in 1981, so I'm probably not the best judge of this considering I didn't live through the 60's, and 70's, but I thought the 80's were great. Not alot of real serious type shows in that decade, just alot of good clean wholesome fun for the most part. The 70's also seemed like a pretty good time for tv as well.
