What I like most about the Golden Girls is that it could be any year. Even the calendar in their kitchen has the year covered. Their clothes are not dated either. I think it was very smart of the producer to be so careful with the set, props and clothing to make sure the girls fit into any year. And I have to admit I like some of Dorothys clothes. Some of the shirts she wears that are double layered or one shirt hangs lower then the top shirt is the exact style they sell now.
I don't really like some of the shows from the 60's, 70's that you can tell what year it is by hair styles, clothes etc. I know people will complainabout this, but one is the Brady bunch, it is very dated. |

Not everything was so "any year". Some of the lines were really dated; they refer to the Reagan-era political stuff in the 80's that some of us don't remember.
For the most part, though, the Golden Girls are timeless. People years from now will still find the sexual jokes, etc. funny. |

One of the very few things people may find "dated" about the show is that it's videotaped instead of filmed. Had it been filmed, I don't think it'd be nearly as funny for some reason. I think it is a timeless show.

Your both right, anything political will eventually become dated. But over all it is a very timeless show. I just traded with someone for the"Golden Palace" and even though it's not as good as the Golden Girls, it's still a great show, that I could watch over and over again. I call it my destressing show. Sometimes I just put it on and don't even watch it, I hear their voices and it's like having old friends around.
My wish would be, if I was ever alone in the future that I would be lucky enough to live like the Golden Girls. What I found was a shame was when I taped the 4 interviews of the girls recently, that they really had it hard in their real lives and never lived even close to the Golden Girl life. I almost wish I didn't see it because it ruined my fantacy image of them. |
