Default Confessing to the Family, Part Two

I had dinner with my grandma and I told her all about my boyfriend. How did it go? Well, dinner was supposed to end at 11ish and I'm sitting at home two hours early.

Not so well at all. She didn't flip out, we were in a public restaurant. She just gave me this very steely glare and told me to go home. She would have a "word" with my mother later. Well, they're having their "words" right now and it's gotten so loud that my little brother woke up. He's sitting next to me right now, he's sick. Poor kid. He doesn't need this.

I don't hear what they're saying, but I'm guessing my mom is defending me. I warned Josh to stay away from my house for a few days, till my Grandma heads west to see other relatives. Till then it's gonna be a rough few days.

My brother's asleep again.

You can't help who you fall in love with. But your Grandmother is from a different generation and you have to get used to the fact that her views are not as liberal and enlightened as yours.
My Grandmother (on my mother's side) died when I was 12. I loved her but - and I'm sorry to say this - she would be turning in her grave if she knew how I am now. I know she wouldn't have accepted me the way I am now but I guess that's ok.
You are lucky that your grandmother is still with you. Try and talk to her yourself and see if you can begin to see eye-to-eye.
Best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear that it didn't go well. I agree with Mossopp, give it another try. Maybe once she's had time to calm down, you both can talk it out. I wish I had my maternal grandmother around too.

That's a shame your grandmother didn't take it well. I can see the point of view of the generation that she came from, but tell your grandmother that she has to realize that those views are in the past and she should try to see people for who they are inside. My grandfather had a situation like that. He was Jewish and married an English woman. My great grandfather didn't like the fact that he married outside the religion and my grandmother didn't convert to Judaism either. He actually didn't talk to my grandfather for two years. You should stand up to your grandmother and tell her that her views are wrong. Just because she is old and is your grandmother and grew up in a different time, those times have changed, and it doesn't mean you should not be able to have your boyfriend over for the reason of her beliefs that it's wrong.

I'm SO sorry about how your grandmother took it! I thought for sure your family would warm to the idea! Please keep us posted, because I'd really like to know what your parents say.

I meant I don't know what the problem is. If White Daisy is a guy, and thus having a boyfriend means he's gay/bi, then I can only say "oh well". People don't always like what you do. If his grandma cares, she'll get over it.

If White Daisy is a girl (sorry, I dunno), then I don't see why she would have to "confess" to her family. So I took the logical conclusion.

And by the way, being bitchy about what I wrote doesn't suit you. You're not at all good at it.
