SLP. Taping in SP is a waste of tape if you are going to do like a whole series. I can't afford that many tapes to be taping in SP.

Default SP!

Definitely SP! It is the best quality. Sure, you can tape a whole lot more on SLP but SP isn't a waste of tape. It makes everything you tape EXCELLENT quality. It is worth it in the long run to have all your series in SP. I know. Some of my older series aren't worth crap because I taped them on SLP and now the sound is bad and even the picture. My SP tapes are perfect.

I've been taping FRIENDS since it first aired and I tape them all in SP usually (I have a couple episodes taped in SLP). The rest of the stuff I tape, and there is a LOT of it, I do SLP. I prefer SP better because of the quality and I'd rather trade in SP than anything else but when I'm taping hours and hours of stuff a day I can't afford to buy the tapes I'd need to tape everything in SP. Not to mention the fact that I already have over 1,000 tapes in my small apartment with no where else to put them. I'd have to move just to accomodate my tape collection.

So my answer is prefer SP but usually tape in SLP

I prefer SP because of quality, but like Angela (MidnightRose) said, it's a waste of tape; the quality on SLP, for me at least (I tape directly off satellite) is very good.

I prefer SP, but would rather use SLP.

I used to tape SLP, but I have converted (at least partially) to SP... It is much easier to catalog my collection, the overall quality is far superior to SLP... I taped the 2000 Election returns in SLP, and the tape isn't as good as when I taped the Columbia shuttle disaster (granted it was Saturday, but the pic is 1,000 times better!)... The only things I tape in SLP are TVLand 48-hour marathons, etc... when I can't wake up every two hours to change tapes... and even some of those are in SP!

I asked this because I am recording Hawaii Five-O and several other shows from Boomerang, Goodlife, and the Hallmark Channel and I'm doing so in the SLP mode.

I record in SLP. I have over 1326 tapes in SLP, so if I used SP, i'd have about 3978 tapes! :eek I usually do this so I can fit much more on a tape without taking up so much space in my room.

I always use SLP, no matter what's the case, but I can remember using SP at one time but then I switched over to SLP. I think SP can be a waste or space on your videotapes, because they can cut down on your recording time. It's much easier to have you tapes set in SLP speed since the amount or expanded time and space is valuable compared to SP.

I agree thats why I tape in SLP. Although, Wal*Mart does have Maxell tapes for $1.36 or something close to that, but they're only 6 hour tapes. I try to cut out the commercials when I'm taping to save tape. I usually know when the commercial break is gonna end and when the show is gonna come back. I really *do* watch too much tv.

It depends on how much I care about the footage, if it is really rare or something that's always shown like the Brady Bunch. Cassettes take a lot of space and my house was getting over-run with videos. I recently bought a DVD recorder to transfer my stuff onto disc, and now I wish I had maybe taped in SP mode a little more often since space/storage will no longer be a concern.

Default SLP

I almost always use SLP. The last time I used SP was actually to record the 2002 Olympics figure skating, and Hazel (when they only ran it on Sunday). I try to use mostly 8-hour tapes for more trivial stuff, like TV series, especially when I must use the timer and record commercials. And also, I really don't think SP is WORLDS better than SLP. I mean, I would much rather watch my shows with a little graininess to the picture than to stockpile warehouses of tapes. Also, I notice absolutely no difference in sound quality between SP & SLP...just when I want to keep valuable stuff, like Olympics, do I use SP...
