Default Kmart Self Checkouts

What a day it has been!

Today, we went to Des Moines to the flea market, after we got out around 1:30PM, I begged my dad if we could go to Big Kmart because the one on Hubbel Avenue was the only Kmart in Des Moines i've never been to let alone never even seen the building. I ask like 30 times in the car begging him to make that right turn and he finally did, just to shut me up. We get to the Kmart pretty fast because it's only like 2 miles from the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

We pull in, me not caring that there are mexicans and black people crowding the front and etc. (NO OFFENSE GUYS) but this is that part of town, you know? Anyways, the Kmart looks as if it was built in the 70s, which it was. But I love the old ones cuz I said "Sweet, a Fort Dodge type Kmart!" to my parents. My parents stayed in the car cuz they wanted to look at my dad's car book he got at the swap meet for $15.00.

As I walk in the store, it looked pretty big, well, it is Des Moines ya know. I look to the right and see the Pharmacy, but something caught my eye when I looked to the left, something I've never seen before in ANY Kmart I've ever been to.

I saw........................................................................................

SELF CHECKOUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought, THOSE ARE SO DAMN COOL! The store had 15 checkouts, including the four self checkouts, a Little Caesar's Pizza Station/K Cafe, Pharmacy, Olan Mills Portrait Studio, Garden Shop, a Penske Auto Centre (From when it was there), but no One Hour Photo .

As I'm exploring, I thought, "Thank God I have my camera with me," cuz when I first saw the self checkouts I took two pictures right there just of them! I work my way around the store. Of course, I'm sidetracked at the Electronics because that's my favourite department of any store. Their video game department was impressive, having everything I could find there pretty much. Then off to toys, which had a whopping 12 toy aisles! The Big Kmart in Carroll only has 9!!!!!! Work my way around the Pantry, Health and Beauty, Garden Shop, Automotive (which was also huge), Do it Yourself, and Gift and Party.

I come back around the front, and I said to myself I MUST BUY SOMETHING cuz I was short on cash (I only had like 4 bucks.) I took a picture of like the checkouts and there was a guy at the customer service desk and when he saw the flash he kept staring at me as if I took a picture of him cuz I thought he was hot or something (which he was lol,) but I didn't. So I bought a Mountain Dew, Winterfresh Gum, and a Nestle Crunch w/ Caramel bar and took it to Checkout 3 of the Self-Checkouts.

I think I was a bit TOO enthusiastic about the self checkouts (probably cuz I've never seen them before in any store.) The machine said "Welcome To Kmart" I was like, Oh my god that is so cool! and as I was scanning my items through the scanner I was like this is soo cool & this is so sweet! I was like havin more fun than playin nintendo so something! I kept like saying it was cool and everything and people from the other checkouts, cashiers and customers, were like staring at me and giving me looks but I didn't care. I was glad they were! The total was 1.79 and I put 2 one dollar bills in. It gave me my change and it said "Thank You For Shopping Kmart" and for some odd reason I just burst out laughing with joy.

When I got back in the car I thanked my dad like a million times for going to this Kmart store! It is right up there with my favourite location, Carroll, Iowa. I hope I can visit this Kmart again cuz I don't know of another Kmart store that has self checkouts!

The picture below is my reciept. I checked out at 2:08PM CST on 02/02/03.

In my opinion, THIS WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yah I didnt bother to read the whole thing. At our Kmart in Londonderry, theres been self check-outs for a while. When you work @ a grocery store as a cashier.. its really not that exciting, believe me. But yah, I prefer to do those anyway LOl. My mom can never figure them out though. And theyre so friggan annoying with the please bag last item! blah blah blah.

But if they replace human cashiers with self-checkouts, then who are the rude, disgruntled customers going to yell at?

Themselves? LOl. They should keep it to themselves anyways. Like Ive said before, I dont get paid enough to listen to their bitching. OR their children. Why would you bring all your kids to the supermarket anyways?!?!??!?!?

Yeah, ditto. I remember I went to this Kmart and it had lottery ticket machines. I was still too young to buy my own lottery tickets, but I begged mom to buy me some. She bought me some, but I didn't win anything. Dammit. Oh well, it was pretty cool seeing a lottery ticket machine inside a Kmart.

Wow, to think if I had won something off them lottery tickets I would probably love Kmart for the rest of my life. I would prob. run my own Kmart website too. Proudly say that I won such amount from a machine in a Kmart. I didn't win and our Kmart was too hick to have a lottery machine. No wonder it closed.

Same here. It's always something. "It's too hot outside. It's too cold in the store. The store is out of this. That item rang up wrong. There aren't enough registers open. It's my fault if bank cards or credit cards don't go through. Yadda yadda yadda!"

Self Check Outs have been in the market for quite some time, it's no big deal. It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, so calm down. And yea, I do take offense to your...

I hate to break it to ya but I grew up close to that part of a town and there's nothing wrong with those people. There's nothing wrong with any people at all! You have some real nerve saying this over the net, cause if this was in person, you'd probably be gasping for air right now from everyone trying to choke you. Maybe I should call dawsongirl to meet you in that K-Mart so she can just give ya a big slap in the face. But I wouldn't submit her to that kind of punishment of meeting you.

I work at Kroger ...I hate that place, but anyway we have had self check outs for like 2 years now. To me it is no big deal.
