I wasn't alive when this show aired on abc but my dad taped all the six episodes they ever had. It was the most hilarious show ever. My dad said that he got all of his friends to complain and when he called ABC said that they have never had more complaints. This show should have lasted Longer!!

Comedy Central occasionally will run all of the episodes. I can only imagine that they took it off at the time because people just didn't get it. I haven't seen them in quite a while but I remember them being hilarious. Didn't they "freeze" during the ending credits and try to hold their positions?

I wish comedy central would show them again, it's been a long time it seems.
The first police squad movie is a big favorite over here - the children i babysit go nuts over it. I don't really remember anything from the show, since I didn't really watch it, but I'm sure they'd have a blast. Seems like comedy central used to have such a strong line up several years ago. Jack Benny, Steve Allen; now it just seems to be on ep after another of SNL. |

I remember that now that I read it!! I think Ed was holding the coffee (maybe?). The shootouts were great also, they'd be about a foot apart.

Many of the bits from the short lived "Police Squad" series wound up in the "Naked Gun" films.
It was a shame this show was cancelled so quick. I think one of the reasons was because it was very visual. You actually had to watch the screen at all times to pick up on the various bits going on in the background, the foregraound, all over the place. Also, the lack of a laugh track probably confused some viewers. Ah well, some people just don't get it I guess... |

Another funny thing about Police Squad was their special guests would be killed off in the opening credits.

I LOVED this show!! I'm glad that it worked better in the movies. Another visual was when it came back after the commercial was Act 2: Bless you. LMAO! Still funny today. I'm looking for the complete series.

What some people may not know is that John Belushi shot a cameo for the opening of Police Squad! where he was "killed." It was set to air at the beginning of an episode, but then Belushi died in real life and his scene was pulled for obvious reasons.

I remember this show, it was SOOO funny!
I remember; besides everything that's been mentioned; in one episode the 2 cops were talking to 2 guys and the first cop said to the other one "OK officer, take them downtown and book 'em!" And he shook hands with the two guys saying "Officer TAKE THEM DOWNTOWN." "Officer BOOK "EM". (that probably doesn't sound funny, you would have to see the scene) |

I remember once my father and brother started watching it thinking it was a serious cop drama-about 5 minutes into it my brother realized it wasn't and my dad realized about 10 minutes into it
Of course I knew it wasn't but I didn't want to tell them!
