My favorite AitF episode is when Edith goes through changes. This one is titled "Edith's Problem". It all starts with Archie with a cigar in his mouth sitting on his favorite chair reading the magazine, and Archie is planning a trip to Disney World in Florida. When Edith runs into the house with two grocery bags piled in her arms, Archie, sitting there waiting for dinner to be served says
"there you are! Geez, we're waiting here, we're starving?") Then Edith madly replies "don't rush me, Archie Bunker! You'll get your dinner on time! You always get your dinner on time!") My favorite part of this episode is when Edith says "Stifle" to Archie. Edith yells into Archie's ear, "Stifle, stifle, STIFLE!!!, and Edith freaks out in anger saying "We're not going to Disney World or ANY OTHER WOOORRRLD!!!!!!"

That's my all-time favorite episode as well!!! Another episode that I enjoyed was the one where Archie and Edith attended Lionel's engagement party and Mother Jefferson gets after George for drinking too much and Archie says you are making your mammy cry here, and Mother Jefferson says, Who You Callin' Mammy??? I am nobody's mammy!!! And George tells her, that's telling him,Mama!!! And she says, Don't Talk To Me and leaves in a huff

If I have to narrow down my favorites it would be Sammy's visit, Edith's problem, and the one where Archie and Mike have different recollections in the restaurant about the plumber and his helper. Maybe the the most poignant one (though not the funniest) was when Mike's draft dodger friend came for Christmas.

Another one of my favorites is the episode where they flashback to Mike and Gloria's wedding and when they had the wedding, they were all there and Gloria was ready to come down stairs to get ready to get married and Edith was playing The Wedding March offkey and she asked Edith from upstairs where Archie was and then you can hear the toilet flushing and Edith said, "I think we're ready!!!"

I have another fave. How about when Lionel Jefferson steps out with Archie's niece Linda. The funniest part is when Edith hides the picture of Linda and Lionel from Archie. Once Archie saw the picture, he went wild. The funnest part is right to a commercial break, Archie runs through the living room like he's flying, and shouts, "THHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSS IS GOING ONNNNNN!!!!!!!!!"

This is great! A group of people, like me, citing dialogue word-for-word and cracking themselves up. I enjoy every single episode just mentioned so I'll name a different one:
____________________________________________________ "The Bunkers ad the Swingers" - Guest stars: Rue Mc Lanahan Vincent Gardenia Plot: Edith unknowingly answers and ad for swingers. Louise - "There here to trade partners, but not for dancing!" ![]() Archie (to Curtis and Ruthie) - "Geez! Ya don't drink, ya don't smoke. Whadda yaz do fer fun?" Ruthie - "We were drowning; swinging saved us." Edith - "I think I would rather have drowned!"

What about Mike's preposterous claim of Archie's remark to the plumber's aide. The guy accidentally brushes against Archie with his apple. He tries to clean off Archie's shirt by wiping it with his hands: Archie - "Don't you know you're not supposed to touch a white poysons's clothes wit' a white poyson in 'em?!" |

With that in mind, have you seen the one where he gets arrested with a bunch of protestors? When he's locked in the cellar, I especially like the part when he writes a note that says, "Help! Man in cellar." Then he shoves it through the crack in the cellar door (to the back yard) and yells, "Hey, anybody! Dere's a note up dere!"

I like the episode where Maude comes to visit when everyone's sick with the flu and Archie and Maude get after each other!!! It starts when Maude is sitting is in Archie's chair.and Archie wants her out of his chair!!! Here's some of the exchange from it!!!
Archie: I know of somethin' that'll get this little lady out of the chair, here we go!!! This country was ruined by Franklin Delano Roosevelt!!! Maude:---looks at Archie--: You're fat!!! Archie: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Franklin Delano Roosevelt Edith: You promised that you wouldn't say anything... Archie: Franklin Delano Roosevelt!!! Maude: He did a lot for our country!!! Archie: For 2 terms, yes,I didn't know he was going to hang on like a pope!!! Maude: He was a great man,a leader,a saint,he had charisma!!! Archie: I don't care if he was sick Archie: And he was always going on with his Fireside Chats!!! Maude: I like those chats, and one "My Friends" is worth a barrel full of "Let Me Make This Perfectly Clears" Archie: Oh now, you're rapping on my president now!!! Well, Nixon knows how to keep Pat at home, but not with Eleanor, she was always on the loose, hanging around with the coloreds, she found them we didn't even know they were there!!! And as usual, Maude, you're wrong!!! AND I GOT MY CHAIR BACK!!! Maude: You know,I kind of liked it when you were stuffing straws up your nose!!!

Also, when everyone (but Archie) was at the breakfast table, Maude mentions Ish Kabibble: Maude: Whenever Kay Kyser said, "And here's Ish Kabibble!" your father laughed. Gloria: Was he funny? Maude: Like a migraine. * BTW, FDR's catch-phrase was "my friends", not "my people". |
