What movie endings didn't stick to the usual Hollywood formula?.....Endings that weren't all wrapped up nicely with a big bow...with that great finale music swelling in the background...Rocky style.
I'll start with Arlington Road. I never saw that one coming. When that bomb went off, I almost fell off my chair. American History X--I didn't expect him to die. Seven--How nuts was that head in the box? Return to Paradise--I really thought Jacquin Phoenix would make it out of prison alive. Unfaithful--The longshot of Richard Gere and Diane Lane in the car was a brave ending. They essentially left the ending up to the viewers. I have the DVD with the commentaries. They had to fight with studio executives to keep that ending. I saw the alternate ending, and I think they made the right choice. |

My roommate and I say that all the time! The sad thing is, too many films end with a neat "wrapped In a bow" ending. Films that don't end the way we've been conditioned to expect to end are always memorable. One that springs to mind is a film you have mentioned before, "American Beauty." The ending is a shocker, even though the first line in the film has a character telling you he's going to die at the end. Yet, the climax has you thinking poor ol' Kevin Spacey has found his peace, things are looking up, then..well, you know...

Things to do in Denver when you're Already Dead-I guess the title explained it all, but in the end I expected Andy Garcia to live.
Killing Zoe-Eric Stoltz is saved at the last minute by the French police. However, his crime partner had aids and is shot to hell above him. Leaving you to wonder if Eric contracted the fatal disease. Carlito's Way- Al Pacino almost made it to that train darn it! Revenge-Kevin Costner went through all that hell to save his girlfriend, only for her to die in the end! |

Jacob's Ladder -
By the end of this movie it is still left up to interpretation as to what the hell just happened. Chasing Amy - No sweet resolution, but a brave ending in that the characters know they learned something about themselves and are the better for it. Just their silent acknowledgement of this almost makes it a happy ending. Almost. |

The Ring -- I liked how they had you believing one part was the ending, but it wasn't...

Wild Things. That film has more twists than a bag of pretzels. (a line partially borrowed from Leonard Maltin)

The Sixth Sense ending was a jawdropper. Now of course, it's done in every other movie.

I loved the ending of the others!!! great ending.. great twist
. I didnt like Final Destination all that much.. kind of stupid. I really hate it when they leave movies just hanging there at the end and they dont even make a sequel! GR! LOL

I think you meant Midnight Express. Midnight Run starred Robert Dinero and Charles Grodin, it was sort of a comedy.
