Their contract lasts until the end of the 10th season. Just depends on if it gets renewed for more.

it cause thats when carter is leaving and he holds the show together!!!!! i want ER to stay on TV for longer!!!!!!!!!!! i love it!!

Since Carter is the last "original" cast member, I think he does hold A LOT of the show together, but I think that the show could go on without him - definitely with lower ratings, but I think it could go...I love Carter to death, just like I loved Mark to death, and when he left the show - it was different for the first couple of episodes...

No, Kerry came in season 2.

Deb sort of is. She came a little bit towards the middle of season one, but after than vanished for a while, and came back later. Susan is an original too, but she left after episode 54 (I think) and of course came back last year, so those two really don't count, becaus Carter stayed the entire run.

I've also heard Noah Wyle, Maura Tierney and Sherry Stringfield all want out after Season 10, so odds are, the show is going off after the 10th. I'd rather it stay on without them, but, it probably won't, and if it does, it will probably sink in ratings.

those three are my favourite characters (Noah, Maura, and Sherry). i dont want them to leave. i love carter and abby toegther, so it seems like if carter leaves then so would abby.. i dunno. i dont want it to end.

The show has had a good run, and ten seasons is quite an achievement. It would be a shame to watch the show slide in ratings if they decided to go on forever. With all the cast changes over the years, I think the show is loosing steam.

All good things must come to an end...
