Default Phrases that became very very STALE in the later seasons

Aunt Esther phrases that became stale.

"You Old heavthen"
"Fish eyed Fool"
"Watch it Sucker"

These three phrases became unfunny and old. Anyone agree?

Fred's phrases

"You Big Dummy"

"that's Sanford, S-A-N-F-O-R-D period".

To hear these phrases the first time was very funny, but to keep hearing it-BORING. Especially-"that is S-A-N-F-O-R-D period.

I'm not trying to show age discrimination here, so let me give my example. The S & S cast found the funny quotes and they were old enough to keep the lines like you posted, Solomon. The lines kept getting laughs, so they left it in.

If you look at a show like Diff'rent Strokes, look at how many times Gary Coleman said 'Whatchoo talking bout Willis?' He said it quite often during those earlier seasons and I kind of noticed that they slowly stopped using that catchphrase. I don't know why they didn't use it as much, maybe Gary thought it was embarassing at his age to still be saying it. Maybe the writers thought that the Arnold character was getting too old to say it all the time. Maybe the viewers thought it was lame for Arnold to keep it saying it. Maybe the viewers were tired of it and that's why the writers dropped it. Idk...

But the phrase "watch it sucker" was not too catchy, and the same with "fish eyed fool". How many times can someone constantly say the same phrase to insult someone. For example, the writers for the Jeffersons always gave the Florence character new things to say to George as a insult. The writers for Sanford and Son sure didn't do that with Aunt Esther. The same insult for 5 years. And we all know that Dummy phrase by fred was worn out.

Ditto! That's my favorite S&S catchphrase along with "How'd you like one these 'cross your lip?"
