Default Death Of A Grocer episode

I don't know the episodes name, the one with Mr Adler and Adlers market. But the episode was really endearing and I enjoyed it.

Alex being Alex naturally wants to work at a job where he can work up, so he leaves a comfortable and friendly job working for lovable but reliant Mr Adler. Alex leaves and gets Mr Adler to hire Skippy. Meanwhile Alex works in cat toys for a major brand store. Eventually he realizes that ,sometimes, life is for the enjoying, not for the working, and he gets his old job back. The whole episode had a good message which is not a common one.

At what point do you realize that you're comfortable where you're at, before you work your life away?

I'd like any discussion regarding this episode.

The episode did have a good message. I think it's good to just work at a job you love instead of a job that you don't especially like. It's like that saying, choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life. I think that's what Alex learns in that episode. It's not the cat toys or products that makes a store a good store, but the kind of environment a person works in. In the store Alex also had an employee number. A job in a store where a person is only known as a number isn't a great job either. It's better to be known by a name rather than a number.

This is true. You truly have to like what you do. No one is obligated to work a job which causes them discomfort, unless it is under financial crisis.

I wonder why the episode is called Death Of A Grocer? Alex temporarily quits working there, but no one dies.

The title could refer to Alex leaving the job, even though he did come back in the end.

I too enjoy this episode. Its one of the best of season 1. Skippy gets kinda annoying to me though for some reason.

I like how Alex is good friends with Skippy. It proves right there that Alex is a very kind person.

I love this episode, it's one of the few that I actually remember. I didn't become a fan until 2001 when Sweden started airing them again, I recorded some episodes and have only watched that tape over and over again for quite some time.

I just ordered season 1 and am so happy to find out this episode is on the first season!

Jack Somack (Mr. Adler) also played a friendly neighborhood shop owner on Barney Miller a couple of times - Mr. Kotterman. He was a very good character actor.
