Cool Brussel Sprouts episode

Did you notice on this episode that when Beaver doesn't eat his brussel sprouts, June disciplines him and not Ward? Also, Ward was telling June she was being a little too hard on Beaver. I find this weird, as it is usually the other way around.

Even the women in the restaurant were telling her to ease up.

I agree june made a big deal out of nothing she acts like every kid in the world loves them and he was very strange to dislike them. I mean June is usually just trying to do whats right but this was a little drastic. they were saying it was very embarrasing when they were in the restuaraunt but it wouldn't of hurt to let it slip or even discuss it when they got home.

Yeah, I agree. June seemed to make too big of a deal out of the whole "brussel sprouts" incident. The kids aren't going to like everything she makes. Oh well, the Beaver ended up eating them and liking them in the end.

Yeah, this episode has always bugged me. So the kid doesn't like brussel sprouts. Big deal. Just let him have some other veggie. The only bad thing Beaver did was to hide the sprouts in his pocket at the dinner table at home. But he did that because June was making him eat the horrid things.

On a personal note: I can't stand the things myself! Ugh! They're way too bitter for my tastes.

A long time ago I made a post saying the same thing, though I think it was on a different message board. If I remember right, no one made a response agreeing with me. But that woman, who does not speak, definitely looks like Sue Randall with a different hair style.

In the meantime, even though June was too severe about Beaver not eating his Brussels sprouts, that older woman at that table had no business butting in. The waitress was silly, too, going to get the manager because June insisted that the sprouts stay on Beaver's plate. June did "make a mountain [or a giant cabbage] out of a Brussels sprout," as Ward said. But maybe one thing in June's defense was that she also said Beaver never eats any green vegetables, so this meal was where she decided to put her foot down about it. Some on this board may not agree, but I think it is true that kids have to be firmly steered to eat right. Especially today, if you let them eat just what they want to eat, they'll feel deprived if they don't get pizza, chicken strips, burgers and fries, and such stuff with high fat and high salt. But that was harldy the case on this Beaver ep, where it was just a matter of a kid not liking a particular vegetable.

i believe it was her. and if it was her you think they would have used somebody less known on the show. she was like a regular involved in countless episodes.

I dont know about Sue Randall, but I do know that the guy that played the restaraunt manager was the same man that played Otis Campbell on The Andy Griffith show. These two shows often had actors on both shows. Floyd the Barber plays a barber on an earlier episode of LITB when Wally gets a shave, The actor that played Uncle Billy on LITB made at least one appearance on the Andy Griffith Show as a so called handy man that turns out to be a giggilo(sp?). Im not sure if there were any others.

Yeah, I like this episode, but, when it was on the other day, I did notice that June was way hard on Beaver than she needed to be. I wouldn't want to eat cold brussels sprouts, anyway! I love them, but maybe Beaver would've eaten them if they were warmed up a little?

I also agree she was hard on him, but when I was little, I HATED carrots...despised them! I tried to eat them, but the taste made me wanna be sick! But my mom always insisted that I eat them. I couldn't get up until they were gone. I would cry and beg but I still had to force them down. My mom said she was only trying to make me eat right. She said she wouldn't give in on carrots because then sooner or later, I'd want to stop eating green beans, and then something else, and so on. She says she only wanted me to eat healthy. So I say she was hard on him, but I see from experience where she's coming from too. I mean my mom did it and she's NOTHING like June.

Default Beaver Ep.

June Sounded Kind-of Silly Trying To Get Beaver To Eat Those Brussel Sprouts, I Mean If Beaver Wouldent Of Ate Those Brussel Sprouts He Wouldent Of Been Able To Go To The Foot Ball Game With Them. No Hard Feelings Twords June, She Stiil Is The Most Perfect Mom In The World.

She was a little hard on him. But I think the point is missed. Beaver didn't know he didnt like them. June wanted him to try them and he wouldnt. He was being a little snot. Finally, he tried them and ended up liking them. If you cater to your kids they are going to grow up thinking the whole world revolves around them. If Beaver had just shut up and tried them and then said Mom, I don't like them, then there would be no issue. She would probably have never served him BS again.

If you dont ever make your kids try something how will they grow as people?

I thought the waitress was WAY out of line. It was ridiculous, her making such a fuss getting the management involved. Geez!

lliisaad, Very well put and makes tha most sense out of all that I've read............ Your observations of a childs behavior and growth is well founded.
