The Hours was EXCELLENT, and will have no problem taking home the oscar for Best Picture this year. The story revolves around 3 women, one of whom is Virginia Woolf played by Nicole Kidman. The other two woman are basically obsessed with her, but it's not clear really why. The three woman are connected in one way or another, and suicidal. Two actually commit suicide, while one survives it. Meryl Streep is quite good in the film, but her character is obviously the weakest, and her performance was more unique in Adaptation. Julianne Moore is great here, and you do feel sympathy for her. It's not comparable to her knockout performance in Far From Heaven, but she's still quite good. Nicole Kidman is great...but it's hard to think that technically. Her prostetic nose is distracting, and hard to get used to. Plus, her character is really the reason to why these three woman are suicidal, and it's hard to like her. Is she good? Yes. Oscar Worthy? Maybe. But now...there's Ed Harris. Ed Harris is simply amazing, and will win the oscar. He plays a man dying of AIDS who is tired of suffering, but Meryl won't let him go. At one point he says "I think I'm just living to please you". Meryl basically has an attack over this, and you are afraid that she's going to let this poor man just slip away. You feel as though Ed is almost like your father, and that you won't let him go, if he can keep himself alive with medicines. Sadly, Ed is losing his hair, and his strength is totally gone. I can't say anymore, because you have to see it to believe it. A!
