Do you think Meredith Baxter was over quailfied for her role as Elyse Keaton. now, don't get me wrong, I think everyone lese on the cast was great, and did an excellent job with there parts. but Meredith was to serious most of the time and she does better for drama roles-not comedy.

Not a chance. Meredith is very talented in a comedic role and she had plenty of chances on the show to play a more dramatic role which she also did extremely well. Besides, there are no small roles, only small actors.

Here is a previous posting I gave about Meredith and her character Elyse:
Enough Elyse bashing!!!!! Given that the writers was throwing everything and the storylines at MJF's direction the character of Elyse Keaton was not given enough depth. I have posted this in other discussion. If you would have seen her in the TV series Family she was given more depth in her character Nancy than her role on FT as Elyse Keaton. On Family she was a supporting actress and on FT she was supposed to be the star of the show. Maybe about five episodes a season especially after the 4th season where you saw Elyse in more depth as a wife, mother and an architect. After the fourth season she became more of a reactor to MJF's character. To be frank I can see why Meredith Baxter was pissed off.

Again, as I stated in so many postings about Meredith and her role as Elyse Keaton, the writers did not handle the situation once Michael J. Fox became the breakout star of the show. The became unwatchable from 85-88. The last season, even though the show was tired, was more enjoyable because you got to see Meredith more and she had more storylines.

I only wished I could had seen more storylines about Steven and Elyse as a couple.

As an actress Meredith Baxter is a much better actress in drama than comedy.

I don't think Rudy&kenny4ever was bashing the Elyse character, she was just giving her opinion. I do agree though that Meredith was phenomenal as the Elyse character and perfect for the show. I couldn't imagine Family Ties without her.

To clarify my previous posting. To prefaced it I should had erased the first sentence. Enough Elyse bashing and talked about the fact that Ms. Baxter is a better gifted dramatic actress than a sitcom actress. If Family Ties was a drama series, in the vein of 8 is Enough, she would have been dynamic in that show.
