I think in a lot of ways this show and Happy Days, are quite alike. I think Richard Correll who played Richard Rickover Beaver's friend, wrote some of the HD eps. I think so not sure and I see the name Rich Correll at the end of HD sometimes, also I think I read it in one of the Jerry Mather's books.
What are some ways you think this show, and HD are alike and different? Some of my ways are well the characters for one thing. Richie is kinda like a mix of a Beaver and a Wally, The Cunninghams are like The Cleavers, Joanie might be like a violet Rutherford and a Julie Foster type, Potsie and Ralph are like Eddie and Lumpy, Fonzie hmmm? I guess he could be like a Wally type I think he kinda looks, a little like Wally. Then, the other ways this show is alike is well they both seem to be about loving perfect families who sometimes have, good things happen and bad things happen. But, I think Happy Days sometimes seems a little funnier and action packed, LITB is funny at times but can also be more a drama type. Also it seems The Cunningham family did more than The Cleavers, they went on family vacations and The Cleavers never really did that. Also Wally and Beaver did'nt have a guy like The Fonz looking out for them. Of course Beav had Wally, and sometimes Wally even got into trouble. I think maybe Beaver and Wally got into more trouble, than Richie, Ralph, and Potsie. They needed a Fonzie around I guess, Also HD is in color LITB is in B&W. Also Ward and June always go around dressed up fancy, well most of the time they do. But, Howard and Marion from HD well I think Howard dresses more causual around the house, and Marion I don't think always dresses as fancy as June for around the house. Hope I was understandable and these are my reasons, why I think LITB/HD are alike and different. What are yours?

I always thought that Wally was alot like Fonzie was to richie always there to get him out of trouble and hardly ever picked on him.except it was Wally geting beaver out of trouble instead of Fonzie geting Richie out of trouble. I guess thats why Happy days and Leave it to beaver are my favorite shows there a lot alike with the relations of the charactor except for maybe potsie and ralph there was nobody like them on LITB well... maybe potsie was a bit like Lumpy except Potsie NEVER bullied on anyone that was younger then him nore anyone older then him. but I think if June and Marion ever met they would get along just fine together they both want there children to be perfect and well.. they were richie and Beaver are the all american boys except Richie he had more of a apple pie face a red head with freckles and Beaver was alot like you would expect Richie would be when he was young except I dont think Richie would of got him self into so much trouble.

My position on Happy Days is is probably not the predominate one, but I really just like the first 2 seasons, when it was shot 'one-camera' without a live audience. From seaons #3 onward, it was basically the 'Fonziemania Show,' where the purpose seemed to be to hear the audience scream when Fonz made his entrance and when he made everything work out, like a new kind of Superman with a leather jacket instead of a red cape.
But comparing the characterizations, there is somewhat of a resemblance between Ward & June, and Howard & Marion; especially those first 2 seasons of HD. Ward seemed a little more knowledgeable than Howard, but we knew for sure what Howard did for a living. Both June and Marion were naive about kids and what they think and know, but Marion was like that in a more comical way. Wally does compare to Richie in some ways, but Wally does seem more content to study and perfect his athleticism than to chase girls; Richie was more the latter, though that may be only because of the difference in television ethics by the time HD was produced. True, there was no Fonzie in LITB, nor was there an Eddie Haskell in HD. Neither such character would have worked in the other show (IMO). But Richie being the more experienced big brother to Joanie is something like Wally in that role to Beaver, with the obvious difference. One final word about filming a series with one camera v. filming/taping with multiple cameras and an audience... I definitely prefer not having a live audience, because when there is an audience that has to be kept laughing, the dialogue is too punched up with trite little jokes and the characters overact and overreact, all to keep the audience going, which is usually too easy with all the prompting. |

Didn't Ken Osmond guest star on Happy Days in the last season?? My memory is pretty bad. I know that Marion guest starred as Mrs. Cunningham on The New Leave it to Beaver. I think the premise was that Oliver had to write a paper, but he was having a difficult time getting motivated, so "Mrs. C" gave him some words of advice.

I also agree. Mrs. C resembled[sp?] June a lot.

"Freddie Bascom". He basically Eddie as an adult. Like when he meets Roger not knowing who he is he says heard they're a new pricipal and wonders what sucker they got to take that job. Roger then introduces himself and "Freddie' replies "and a fine choice they made!" |
