FOX averaged a 14.2 rating/21 share in primetime, CBS was second with a 9.1/14, ABC third at 6.2/9, with NBC at 5.5/8, in fourth, The WB averaged 5.1/7, and UPN 2.6/4.

For Viewers 18-49, FOX led with a 12.1 rating, ABC averaged a 3.5, NBC third with a 3.4 and CBS with a 3.1.

Basically, it was American Idol's night, it's second season premiere.
8 Simple Rules was #3 overall in the time-slot behind FOX and CBS at a respectable 7.2/11, despite the heavy American Idol competition. 8 Simple Rules was second in it's timeslot behind American Idol for viewers 18-49.
(Note: The 8 p.m. half hour was American Idol's lowest rated half hour last night.)

I think 8SR will be more closer next week with the Three's Company themed episode, since this week was the season premiere of the heavily hyped American Idol.
