"Mr. Ed" gets Original spin
A horse is a horse, of course of course -- unless that horse is a new version of "Mr. Ed" in active development at Fox. The network will reshape the classic horsey comedy so that Mr. Ed will speak with a more urban voice a la Eddie Murphy or Eddie Griffin. The pilot for the Original Television project will be written by "Saturday Night Live" scribe Jack Handey. "This one is so in (Handey's) strike zone," Original TV chief Dawn Parouse said of the scribe, whose "SNL" creations include "Deep Thoughts" and Toonces, the Driving Cat. "He loves talking animals, and we love the fact that he loves talking animals." |

Oh, god, that has to be the worst news ever. I do NOT want to see a remake, ever, lol. Boy, Hollywood must really be out of ideas if they are remaking so many classics. I can't say I'm surprised. But I hope this remake falls flat on it's face and doesn't ruin the original.

Hollywood seems to be recycling a lot of shows which aired in the past and re-using them all over again, creating a new twist to the show. Their ideas aren't that fresh anymore. For instance they are airing an overload of reality shows, the shows are re-defining TV. It just isn't the same as it used to be.
Now that they are creating a new Mr. Ed series along with The Beverly Hillbillies Reality Series, even a Green Acres Reality Series, and not to mention The Rerun Show. I'd hate to see any other series become another remake. |

I think it's a bad idea. The thing, to me, that made Mister Ed successful was Alan Young, Allan "Rocky" Lane and the writers from the 1960's. I'm not saying that it will suck, but it won't be anywhere near the same as the original.
Plus, I heard that Disney has the rights to make a Mister Ed movie. I'm not sure wen they'll make it, though. I tell you one thing, Ed's talking will probably be done by computers. |

This is bad news!! Whenever Fox remakes anything it is usually dumb or stupid and nothing like the original. I for one will not be trading in the TV Land Mr. Ed for the Fox one.
It is so painful to watch networks attempt to make comedies like they used to do(i.e. family comedies). They are always so dumb! I guess this is why people enjoy watching reruns on cable so much now! I know that I hardly watch regular tv for sitcoms anymore. Cable reruns all the way! |

Fox is so desperate for ratings that they have to stoop this low?
The thing that will most likely kill this shows chances of survival is the same thing that got "Skin" canned after just 2 episodes & thats constant shoved down your throat promotion. It happened to CBS in 1993 with "South Of Sunset" also. In other words, promo overkill=nobody's gonna bother.

It could make it if it's done right. They have to keep it clean and wholesome while still keeping it funny. And for God's sake don't make Mr. Ed a street-wise, ebonics jive talking fool. The people who bring us King of the Hill could probably write good stories for the new Mr. Ed show.

For consideration for FOX this fall:
Mr. Ed (FOX) Sherman Hemsley ("The Jeffersons," "Amen") is set as the voice of the talking horse in FOX's re-imaging of the 1961-66 CBS comedy. Hemsley joins the previously cast David Alan Basche and Sherilyn Fenn as the Posts. 20th Century Fox Television-based Original Television is the studio behind the project, which is being developed by Jack Handey ("Saturday Night Live"). Notice the word "consideration," which means IF it makes it on the air, it'll air this fall, that's IF it makes it. |
