I never really thought about this before, but here goes. The excuse for the new, so-called better Arnold's (PUH-LEASE) has always been that the drive-in/diners were dying out in the early 60's according to the writers. Ok, well if that's so then why does American Graffiti, set in 1962 and the whole reason HD got be a series have one in well, 1962? The "New" Arnold's I think came about around the same year time wise or earlier! WTF????!!!
I just got the AG collector's edition DVD and started thinking about this. Changing Arnold's changed the whole show a lot and again this is from someone who still likes the later years if not as much. I was also watching the "Making of" documenatry included on the DVD where George Lucas basically said it was the time he grew up and was an accurate depicition of the times. Boy those seventh season writers were really on the ball! |
