No, I think it was 15 years, according to Rescue From Gilligan's Island.

Gilligan's Planet? Never heard of it. Anyway, since Rescue From Gilligan's Island was the first movie after the series, 15 years must be from when the Castaways were first ship wrecked, up to the point were they were first rescued (Eps.1 to Rescue from Gilligan's Island.) But then again, I could be wrong.

NEVER HEARD OF GILLIGAN'S PLANET?!?!?! How can you consider yourself a fan of the show??? The premise of the series was that the Professor was somehow able to build a spaceship that should have gotten them back to Hawaii, but Gilligan did something that made the rocket fuel to strong and they launched into outer space, landing on an asteroid or meteor that was large enough to be considered a small planet. All of the original cast came back to do the voices of their respective characters (except for Ginger, who was voiced by Dawn Wells, who was also voicing MaryAnne), and it was a very wacky show. I never figured out how they got back to earth, though...

Okay, you are forgiven There was alos a cartoon called "The NEw Adventures of Gilligan's Island" that had a few wacky episodes... Maybe Nickelodeon should do a night of nothing but cartoon versions of sitcoms? There was a Partridge Family cartoon (based in outer space), the Gilligan cartoons... and I Dream Of Jeanie cartoon (with a teenager as "Master")... Mork and Mindy had a cartoon... Fonzie had a cartoon... Laverne and Shirley had a cartoon... the possibilities are endless! Let's start a letter writing campaign, shall we?

Actually that would be a great idea for the Cartoon Network!!

I'm with you! Except not Cartoon Network because I don't get that channel...anyway, the Brady Bunch had a cartoon too but it was kind of stupid. And Gilligan's Planet was made in 1982, after the Rescue From Gilligan's Island movie, so I guess it's 15 years not counting Gilligan's Planet

------------------
"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

Cool

Rescue from Gilligan's Island came out in 1978, The Castaways on Gilligan's Island came out in 1979, and Gilligan's Planet came out in 1982 . I don't know why they came out with Gilligan's Planet after Gilligan and his friends were rescued and built a hotel on their island .

Rescue from Gilligan's Island and The Castaways on Gilligan's Island took Gilligan and his friends in one direction and Gilligan's Planet took them in another direction . As far as I'm concerned, Gilligan's Island depicted the castaways' lives from 1964 to 1967, The New Adventures of Gilligan depicted the castaways' lives in 1974, and Gilligan fell asleep one night and dreamed the events depicted on Gilligan's Planet .

That doesn't mean Gilligan's Planet was bad, but when I think about the characters on Gilligan's Island, I'd rather imagine them working on the resort depicted in The Castaways on Gilligan's Island instead of being stranded on a tiny planet .

I'd do a letter writing campaign in a heart beat! I used to be a tv news producer so I definitely know how networks work. BTW, I think according to live-actors canon(instead of cartoons) it was 15 years. I think they shot the pilot in 1963 so I guess 15(even though 3 of the castmembers weren't in the pilot). I assume it was Sherwood's idea to say 15 since he created the show. I had the GI tub toy and I'm 36. I think it came out in 77 around the time New Adventures of GIlligan's island was on the air.
