Exclamation ABC: "Drew Carey Show" GO for Season 9

Suprising but true, The Drew Carey Show will go to a ninth season said ABC. Here is the full article from FutonCritic.com:

"We'd like ['The Drew Carey Show'] to be doing better, but right now it's coming back," ABC Entertainment TV Group chairmain Lloyd Braun told reporters at the network's portion of the TCA's Winter Press Tour. The announcement comes after speculation ABC would try to find a way out of the final year of its $152 million, three-year contract the network signed back in June 2001 (read the story) to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season. "Drew's" current season is averaging just 5.25 million viewers, its lowest numbers in the show's eight-year history and ABC's least watched program currently on its schedule. Nevertheless, look for "Drew" to be back for season nine on ABC.

"Drew" is one of a dozen series on the six major broadcast networks to be locked up beyond the current 2002-2003 season. While these deals don't necessarily guarantee the show will continue through the end of their specified dates, more often than not they end up doing so (but not always, just ask fans of "Farscape" and "Lois & Clark"). Here's a rundown of those series, when their deals were signed and links to the stories that announced said deals:

"charmed" (wb)
deal signed in may 2001 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's sixth)

"er" (nbc)
deal signed in april 2000 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's 10th)

"frasier" (nbc)
deal signed in march 2001 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's 11th)

"friends" (nbc)
deal signed in december 2002 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's 10th)

"law & order" (nbc)
deal signed in april 2000 to keep the series through the 2004-2005 season (the show's 15th)

"n.y.p.d. blue" (abc)
deal signed in october 2002 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's 11th)

"the practice" (abc)
deal signed in january 2001 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's eighth)

"the simpsons" (fox)
deal signed in april 2001 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's 14th) with the option for a 15th season

"that '70s show" (fox)
deal signed in october 2002 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's sixth)

"whose line is it anyway?" (abc)
deal signed in november 2000 to keep the series through the 2003-2004 season (the show's sixth)

"will & grace" (nbc)
deal signed in march 2002 to keep the series through the 2004-2005 season (the show's seventh)

If ABC was smart, they would have gotten out of the contract. Then made a deal to double up on "Whose Line", because that show costs less and does slightly better ratings-wise than "Drew Carey". Plus, "Whose Line" is a lot funnier than "Drew" is now.

The problem here is that Drew Carey would likely leave WLIIA if his show got cancelled...and if that happened, then WLIIA would probably have to get the axe also. That's where the problem is. Whose Line is getting higher ratings that TDCS, and Drew's ratings are going downhill as we speak. You have to cancel WLIIA before Drew, or Drew will kill Whose Line. That's how it goes. Plus, ABC is having more problems with it's Monday night thing, the future of Alias & George Lopez, their Saturday night line-up, and what to do with Bonnie & LTP.

Thumbs up Not True

Alias and George Lopez are doing good, only Mondays and Drew Carey and Whose Line are doing bad and every channel is doing bad on Saturday's.

Take Care and God Bless
