'Friends' Return a Last Minute Decision - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Marta Kauffman, one of the creators and executive producers of NBC's "Friends" tells "Access Hollywood" that the decision to sign on for a 10th season was made at the very last minute, in an interview that will air tonight.

"Until the very last minute I was sure it would never happen. I was convinced," she says, sure that the cast was ready to get on with their lives, including starting families. "I just thought it would be too difficult. Then, there we were. I was leaving on a plane for a vacation asking myself, 'Really, we're coming back? Really?'"

For their part, Lisa Kudrow says that the cast was the last group approached about returning.

"First, the network and studio have to decide to do it, and they work out something. Then, the producers decide and work out something. Then, we are the last ones they come to," says the actress. "There was a lot of talk among the cast, how many [episodes] would be reasonable to do, how many we felt like doing. At this point, everybody is at such a different stage of their life that doing this show might not suit everybody's life right now."

As a result, the 10th, and final, season of "Friends" will consist of 18 episodes, rather than the usual 24.

Yeah really. Remember when it wasn't even for sure if they would come back on for season 7? I do think this will be the last season but with how its gone in the past, you never know.

I really hope that the 10th season will be the last because 10 is a good number to end on and I don't think that they can still make episodes that are funny if they were to have a season 11.

Friends is my absolute favorite show, and I love Season 9, but I think a Season 11 would be pushing it.

I do think S10 is going to be great though.
