Man Arrested In January 2000 Faces Two Counts Of Murder

The Jacksonville man accused of killing a Camden County couple in their church 17 years ago is scheduled to go on trial on two counts of murder next month.
Dennis Perry, 40, was arrested three years ago at his Jacksonville home and charged with the murder of 66-year-old Harold Swain and his wife, 62-year-old Thelma Swain. The two were shot to death while attending a Bible study class in March 1985 as eight other parishioners watched.

Authorities said the gunman cut the telephone lines and drove away in a battered brown car.

Camden County Sheriff Bill Smith said that Perry, who was a resident of Georgia at the time, was a suspect in the investigation in the weeks after the murders, but "someone dropped the ball."

"Every time that I drove by the Rising Daughter Church, I would always think about Thelma and Harold," Smith told Channel 4 in January 2000.

The sheriff assigned an investigator to the case full time about four years ago, but the break in the case came after the case was highlighted on the TV show "Unsolved Mysteries."

Perry is scheduled to face trail in Brunswick in February.

Awesome!!!!! That was always one of those cases where you thought there was no chance it would ever be solved. Wasn't the only clue his glasses that he left behind???
