Lightbulb A Board to vent about shows you don't like...

It might be a good idea because there are times when I watch a new show or any show for that matter, and I just want to vent about how bad it is.
You can't really go to that show's Message Board because it's filled with fans, and you'd get ripped apart for criticizing it.
The Friend's section would fill up pretty fast.

Very interesting idea, Janice. There are quite a number of users that I would see going into such a forum (Anna4, among others).

If this board was created, the #1 Rule would be that a member can say anything they want. For example, someone could write, "I think John Doe is a horrible actor and his sitcom is the worst one in history", and nobody can say anything because it's allowed.
Everyone would know the deal going in, so those that are easily offended can stay away from it.

I don't get it? How are you going to keep the ones who want to go nuts about having their favorite sitcoms and actresses and actors etc., from coming into this new board and making the same trouble they always make?

It's better than making trouble on the boards where a lot of the community does like the show that is being bashed. Take the Scrubs board, for instance. Everybody there likes Scrubs except this user named Anna4. She keeps bashing the show and making trouble for those who do like it. If we had a board for venting purposes, she can go and bash about Scrubs all she wants there because everybody there is going to say negative things about shows.

I agree with the concept and I'm well aware of the problem. But people who are determined to keep track of this sort of thing tend to be obsessive. They'll check this new board on a regular basis and transfer what they read to the boards that they frequent. Next thing you know this new board will be inundated with hoards of trouble makers, on top of those same trouble makers making hay at their regular locations of yelling and screaming. Double whammy.

I like the idea.
Personally, every once in a while I really get the urge to trash a show that I hate, but I keep my comments in check as not to offend the fans of a show. But, it would be nice to have a "rant" board to blow off some steam.

But, I can see Kittflynn's point. Things will get ugly really quick. The last thing we need in more fighting and endless "this is my last post" threads.

I have to admit that Kitt makes a very good point too. He's right about people checking out the boards and going off if they see someone dissing their favorite show.

I still like the whole idea about a rant board. If someone comes over to the Batman board and starts saying how much this show sucks, I can just move the thread over to the rant board and tell the person to take the rants over there.

But, you would have the fans prob. checking out the boards too and that tends to get a bit nasty if they see someone throwing off on their favorite show.

There could be a moderator who could keep things in check and remind the offended person that it's legal, so to speak, to criticize on the board.
If the person keeps it up, the moderator can give them a warning that their posts will be removed.
It'll never happen anyway.

I wouldn't say that. Despite the one little bump, it is a very good idea. Moderators could help that bump smooth out.

Same here. Most fans of shows treat the boards as though they're tribute boards.
A while back, I had someone jump down my throat because I said Gilligan's Island had more plot holes in it than Swiss cheese. Someone posted something like, "That wasn't necessary."
Things like that happen all the time. It would be nice if the boards weren't a big lovefest.

It might if TJ is willing to pay someone battle wages to moderate such a thing. It sounds like a full time job to me.

I agee but it's been proven over and over that it is a big love fest. Just when you get someone who likes to argue to quit, someone else comes along and starts over again. Hey...I'd love it if we give Janice's idea a try. Talk about nothing to lose. .
