Since James Komack introduced Freddie to DR Ablon I find myself wondering if James ever heard, knew for sure or even suspected that the "Good"Dr was known for "over perscribing"
If he knew I wonder why he got intrduced Freddie to him-and how can he have said hollywwod wasn't responsibele For Freddie's death when he being a part of Hollywood , did that. I know Freddie was a grown man but he trusted people. If Komack knew the Dr well enough to reccomend him how can he not know about him overperscribing meds? |

Joy, you have raised a valid question. You are correct, he must have known about the doctor's penchant for over-prescribing medications. I'm afraid that the people Freddie was around were of the mind set of "Whatever it takes to keep him going, give it to him." Not that I can judge anyone, but just looking at his schedule (in his Mom's book) it is evident that he was working much too hard. The schedule was relentless! I doubt if any of them would have remained on that kind of treadmill, but they demanded it of Freddie. He was making all of them plenty of money and they wanted it to continue. I also think that maybe they felt that he could handle the prescription meds. In his Mom's book, there is a statement Freddie makes that has always stuck with me, almost haunting me because of his insight.
I am paraphrasing, but here goes. "People look at my height, my size and think I have all the answers. I'm too young to even know the right questions to ask." !!!! He knew this, but others did not seem to want to allow him to grow up and mature in his own time and in his own way. He was still so young. They expected so much from him and he tried to live up to these tremendous and unrealistic expectations. The pressures and self-doubts tortured him. It is so pitiful and so unnecessary. All sorts of platitudes come to my mind about the situation such as he was "a babe in the woods, a lamb among wolves," etc. It was a terrible tragedy that would not have happened if those around him had been more attentive, caring and for real. I am sorry, I do not mean to get on anyone's case. I am sure they have regrets and heavy hearts about the outcome. I guess they just did not see it coming. No one did. Poor baby. |
