Default Why does Charlotte Rae ALWAYS have to be the maid in everything that she's in?

Except for All In the Family whe she guest starred, every movie and show she's been in (FOL MOVIES DONT COUNT) she's a maid! She was a maid in the movie "Hello Down There" and she was a maid on Diff'rent Strokes and she was a maid on The Facts of Life!

Whats up with that?

she wasn't a maid on FOL...she was a housemother/dietician/bussiness woman...how do any of those even resemble, "Housekeeper?"

Besides, in "The Worst Witch" she was a witch...actually two witches...in "Tom and Jerry The Movie, she did a voice for Aunt figg....in "Queen of the Stardust Ballroom" she was the lady's idiotic sister...in "Three Penny Opera" (granted that wasn't tv..but still) She was the mother...AND, she did a voice in Noah's Ark for Noah's wife! oh, yea, and let's not forget "Words By Heart" in which her character owned property, and slaves...well, it was actually just after the civil war, so they weren't exactly slaves, but...it was pretty darn close...anyway...she wasn't a maid in that either...

maid?? no...Although, she was a MAMMY once in "Li'l Abner"...but, I'd say there were a lot more instances where she WASN'T a maid/housekeeper/Mammy than when she was.

Uhh, she was ACTUALLY NOT A MAID in FOL, she was at first a housemother, THEN the school DIETICIAN, THEN SHE RAN BOTH EDNA'S EDIBLES and THEN CO-OWNED OVER OUR HEADS.

RainMan -- I'm convinced you just post to post. You ask stupid questions about random things, without taking the time to investigate the answer yourself first. SO WHAT if she was a housekeeper (which she was on DS and that's it, it sounds like). That's her life to figure out what roles she wants to play.

Likewise, who cares who wrote a paper about FOL? That's more chit-chat to me than related to this board.

Get over KMART -- it SUCKS!!!

Life is more than old TV shows, man.

I'm not trying to knock you all over, but come on... you're asking questions that fans of the show have trouble answering. And since so many people on this board were born AFTER DS and TFOL, the information they are getting is second- and third-hand, so who knows what's true.

And, housekeeping is nothing to knock. In his last movie, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," Spencer Tracy had a young black housekeeper. Know who it was?

Isabel Sanford -- Mrs. George Jefferson.

Who today doesn't know the face of "Alice" from Brady Bunch?

And what about Benson? He was a housekeeper in the governor's mansion (as I recall).

So, don't know housekeeping as a role. It's very important!

Wow that was pretty harsh. Rainman has posted stupid post but haven't we all at some point in the past. Anyway I don't think He was making fun of maids. I to think it's important work. He was
just pointing out she has played a maid in alot of shows. You over reacted.

Rainman Charlotte has played other good roles besides a maid. Maybe the only work she did you saw she was a maid.
I find this thread to be harmless

Rainman, get the facts straight before you post something. Jayman's right. You are posting just to post and a lot of it is pointless and without merit.

MRS G was simply the best! As a housemother, nutritionist, business woman etc... and the one with the strongest personality on FOL: she was everything to our 4 main girls and the one who held them together (she was always there for them better or worse). I don't think the show would have been as great as it was without her in my opinion lol:
