Default Jason is better? am I hearing you correctly?

You gotta be kiddin me, Adam Powell was 10x better, and I don't know how anybody could say the Pembrokes are better then the Powells, hey its not our fault that they wouldn't stick with the contract. What were they gonna do? cancel a good show like that just because the Pembroke ratings sucked? So they went out and got the Powells. Jaimie is awesome and cute, Sarah was smart, and Adam was so funny in his own way. So don't be putting the Powells down.

I don't mean to put down the Powells, but it just isn't the same as the Pembrokes. It just became like any other regular show. The Pembroke season was special--pure, clean, innocent, sweet. The Powell season lost those qualities. I don't mean to take anything away from the Powell kids, but they seemed older and like they just bothered Charles. Whereas with the Pembrokes, I could see a true bond between Charles and the kids. In my opinion, there is nothing cuter than watching Jason and Charles together. When Charles picks up Jason in that final scene of the final Pembroke episode, I tear up every time. There was real chemistry there--it seemes like Charles loved Jason and that Scott Baio really genuinely loved Michael Pearlman. It's really touching. I mean, I guess Adam was a cute kid in his own way but he was definitely not as good of a character as Jason. I mean, what were Adam's definining characteristics? I just don't think Alexander Polinsky had the comic talent that Michael Pearlman had. It just seemed to me Alexander learned his lines and then said them with a straight face. Michael Pearlman put emotion behind his lines. He also had great timing and body language...and one heck of an infectious smile. I actually loved all the kids in the Pembroke season better than the Powells. Lila was definitely more believable than Sarah and Jamie. And of course...Douglas is classic. I love Douglas's character. Jonothan Ward and April Lerman were both also very talented. Another thing I liked about the Pembrokes is that Charles spent more time with the family, and his friends and the Pembrokes got along very well. The show might not have been as funny, but I think a few laughs are okay to sacrafice when the show is as sweet and unique as the Pembroke season.

Talking "Pembrokes"

Jill, again you hit it right on the mark. Though the Powells were good, the Pembrokes will forever be better.

The reason that the Pembrokes only lasted on the series for one season was because CBS cancelled the show after only one year, the 1984-1985 season. When CIC returned to television, this time in syndication, in early 1987 the producers tried to bring the Pembroke family back, but both Jonathan Ward (who played Douglas) and Julie Cobb (Mrs. Pembroke) were unavalable. With this, the producers decided thay it was better to create a new family for the series. The Pembroke season actually had higher rathings then the Powell seasons, but in syndication a series does not need the size audiance that it needs on a network. The Powells did not last longer on Charles In Charge because they were better or pulled in higher rathings, it is because those shows were broadcasted in first run syndication, in which a show can servive with even basement ratings. With the exception of Charles In Charge, most of the shows which aired in first run syndication during the late eighties were teririble, but were on for years because they didn't neen strong rastings to survive.

I like both the families. I like the first season the best, but I still like them both. I think the bond with the Pembrokes kids was stronger. Even though I cant stand the girl on the Pembrokes, but hey she had Kelly Bundy(or at least Christina Applegate) as a friend so Ill cut her acting ability some slack. You got to like the Pembrokes since they helped the Powells keep there house in that wacky dream sequence episode. Well you don't have to, but I dont see why there should be a line in the sand either. There are good points for both incarnations, like how the Pembrokes had Meg Ryan guest star, and the Powells had Samantha Foxx guest star.
