Default The House

Does anyone else but me totally love the GG house?! I LOVE it! IMO, it's the best house on TV.

Does anyone have any information about it? All I know is that it's located in Pacific Palisades in California. (5 miles away from my house.)

I'll love to visit it, and take a few snap shots.

It's a mere 5 miles from your house and you've never driven by and taken a few pics?!?!?! LOL!

Ooooh, I thought you meant the actual house was located 5 miles from where you live, and I couldn't understand why you had never been, lol!

I thought the house was on the back lot at Disney in California. I seem to remember driving by it on a tour, and thinking it didn't look ANYTHING like it did on TV.

I also think there is another post about this. You might want to check, SBTB, and see if you can get more info...

I believe it is a tour, it's in the backlot of Disney MGM Studios in Florida, I actually remember seeing the foundation of the house from the outside when I visited there.

OK, well it makes sense to be in Florida, but I thought it was Cali Disney where I saw it.

If one of them is Florida and one is in California, either one or the other could be a replica from the original version, but I doubt there would be two, in two different locations.

The house....

BEFORE the show was sold into syndication, exterior shots of the house were filmed using an actual house in the Pacific Palisades area of California.

AFTER the show was sold into syndication to Buena Vista, a facade was built at MGM Studios at Disney World in Florida, and this was then used for exterior shots.

I know a lot of people get confused about the house, because you'd think it would be one or the other, but really, both were used.

Smile House

I have been interested in the GG house for a while. In the Fall of 2001, a friend I know in school said her Aunt took a photo of the house while on the MGM tour. It looked as if the house was being renovated or as sources are telling me, it's been torn down. The windows were taken out as well.

Many sources have told me disturbing news on the house. I was upset to find out in the first place that that house on the backlot tour is only a "wall". I don't know if you know this, but that house is only a facade. The rest of the house is not there. The front is only there. Where the front part of the roof ends must be the end of the house. Also, I heard that they tore down the street with all the house facades, including the GG house for something else.

I am confused about this:

The source I got the house on MGM tours was only partly there, it also said that if you open a door (ex. The garage), daylight appears through the other end. When I recieved the photo of the house with the windows out, it was pitch black inside. Is this house real or not. I did know there was the real GG house in California. Does anyone have any photos of that house? Also, did any of the episodes of the Golden Girls ever happen in the house? I'm so confused about this. I wish it were. From my friend, I heard that her Aunt actually went inside the house at MGM, and it looked like it did on the show. THIS IS ALL DRIVING ME CRAZY!! Please respond soon. Thanks!

Both The Golden Girls house and the Empty Nest house are on the Backlots of the MGM tour in Orlando, FL. But as other posters have said, they are only the fronts. Still, from far enough away, it's hard to tell. The pics I have of them they look perfectly normal. But this house in California. This interests me. Is it still there I wonder? It would be really cool to see.
