I read recently in one of my articles where it said that Freddies name was Freddie Carlos Prinze. So I'm assuming that when he changed his name from Pruetzel to Prinze that he changed his middle name from Karl Carlos the Spanish version of it.
Except Jr's middle name is James & yet he is a Jr... |

Cheryl, where did you read this? I was just reminded this week in a conversation with another Freddie fan of having read the same thing but I can't remember where I saw it. Supposedly when Freddie changed his last name to Prinze, he changed the rest of it to its Spanish translation, Frederico Carlos. I am not even sure if the article I read was joking or serious about that.
As for his son being a Junior, it is true he is technically not because his middle name is different, and also because I think his legal first name is Freddie, not Frederick like his father's. He probably just uses Jr. to honor his father's memory. I think he has said this, and also that he would therefore never have changed his name for professional reasons--but I think it is required by the actor's union that he distinguish himself from any actor with a similar name. That may be another reason he calls himself Jr. ------------------ "A friend is faithful, trusting, and helpful, someone that realizes your imperfections and stands by you."--Freddie Prinze [This message has been edited by MariposaLKB (edited 11-10-2001).] |

I think I read it in one of the recent articles on him I got. I forget which one tho. I'll be putting them on my site someday & hopefully folks will see it there.
I think Jr also uses the JR to keep folks from getting him confused with his dad. To me when folks say Freddie Prinze I think of the Sr but to young people they probably think of the Jr. ![]() Thanks for the full info on his name change. ![]() [This message has been edited by Cheryl Harrell (edited 11-10-2001).] |

Thanks for the info. It is so confusing. I saw on sale on the internet where an autographed pic of JR was on sale but he didn't write the Jr after his name on it. If it were an autograph that wasn'ton apic it could be confused with Sr's autograph...

My brother is a Jr. and he never signs his name with the Jr. on the end either.
