Wow, 8 Simple Rules... has really taken ABC by storm, I'm surprised it's doing this well in the ratings, LOL

I hope to God that ABC doesn't screw this up. Every time they have somewhat of a hit on their hands, they play it over and over and over again until everyone gets sick of seeing it and the ratings plummet (re: "Millionaire").

8SR does great now for it's new episodes, but it does HORRIBLE in the reruns. The only other thing that I think may hurt the show is that it'll most likely run out of storylines, and rely on slapstick comedy or special guest stars to keep it going. I say it runs for 2 more seasons, and then gets bagged.

It's not doing bad in reruns, the only reason the last two week's ratings were down because it was Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the two least watched nights in primetime, especially Christmas Eve; and if you noticed on New Year's Eve it was the second highest rated show for the night.

8 Simple Rules, along with My Wife & Kids and According to Jim, will have the least amount of reruns this season, all three will have 26 episodes this season.

Ugh...slapstick comedy hasn't worked on TV since Three's Company, because after all, TC was all about slapstick, so you got used to it, it was original and funny. These days however, slapstick seems a bit dated, and forced when and wherever on TV or Film. I saw a play in March, 2002 called Noises Off in NYC w/ Patti Lupone and Peter Gallagher. If the cast hadn't been there, it wouldn't have worked...as the slapstick was lame.

What exactly is slapstick comedy? Anyway, the show is doing great and it is placed 2nd in its time slot. So its not doing so bad.

Three Stooges, I Love Lucy, Three's Company, and Perfect Strangers describe slapstick perfectly. Slapstick has a lot of physical comedy. I agree that primetime of now lacks this, that's why sitcoms are not as good as they use to be.

8 Simple Rules is fine as it is right now, and it will get better and better. It's the best new established sitcom, it doesn't need a lead in to survive (like Still Standing) and it has single handingly helped According to Jim find an audience. This is why you'll see this show for years to come, callmetootie fails to realize that top 20 ratings are not everything. Some great guest stars are coming up for sweeps (like most major sitcoms do), it's just going to get better and better.

I think that the ONLY reason that the show is doing well is that it's the only real family comedy in it's timeslot. John Ritter has little to do with it. That's what I'm trying to get to. If it's in another timeslot next year against all family sitcoms, it would be a huge competition. Imagine Still Standing VS. 8 Simple Rules. The winner would be hard to choose...

Funny things are good things, PB! Especially sitcoms like this. I think this show will last at least 5 more years maybe...

callmetootie, why do you continue to post negative comments on this board? Why are you even on this board, I'm tired of reading your posts. You still have not learned after even being banned. If you don't like the show, do not post here, it's as simple as that!

I think Tootie is just trying to be fair. Sometimes people love things so much, they fail to see their faults.

Anyway, I hope they don't bring in major guest stars because that will just show that this is another sitcom that relies on big names to grab ratings *coughFriendscough*. Slapstick went out of style for a reason: it's not funny anymore. It doesn't hold up today. That's why Seinfeld beat I Love Lucy for the title of best comedy.

As for the show lasting another 5 years.... I doubt it. I mean, it may last for five years, but by then the girls will be in their twenties (on the show, not in real life. I know that the redhead is already in her 20's) and they'll have to change the title to "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Grown Up Daughter". The show just can't last that long. So , let's just enjoy this show while it lasts and not put anymore thought into it, Mmkay?

Default As a matter of fact...

They already solved that issue. They will not let the girls age on the show, so for example, Bridget should be 16 for about 2-3 seasons. This show will for sure last at least 5 seasons, it is already creating buzz in the syndication world.
