Question June Cleaver or Laura Petrie

Who was the better TV mother-June Cleaver or Laura Petrie from "The Dick Van Dyke Show?" I would say that June was better.

There are many good mothers, and even many great mothers, but June was the ideal mother.

I think these two women are too different. In the Dick Van Dyke show, Laura was seen more as Rob's wife then Richie's mother as Rob is the main character. I don't think you would call Lucy a TV mom, right? It might be better to compare June to Mrs. C from Happy Days or Carol Brady from Brady Bunch where the show is more focused on the kids and the parents act as meters out of justice or punishment. Other cool moms were Mrs. Partridge, and Harriet Nelson.

I would have to vote for June as well. She was very devoted to her boys.

EXACTLY!! That's why there isn't really a contest here. Of course June was the better "mom." She was one of the very best TV Mothers, if not #1 overall.

I couldn't choose because to me it would be unfair there too diffrient Laura was more a husband to rob than a mother to Richie and june just happened to be both a wife to ward and a mother to Wally and Beaver.

June was a much better mom than Laura. Although, the shows had a different focus. LITB was focused more on the children and Dick Van Dyke was focused on Dick. It seemed like Ritchie's main function was to scream out his lines (very annoying) and have to go to bed.

Ooh, I agree. I said that awhile back on the General board about Richie screaming his lines. Did the writers think screaming was cute? Did the actor throw that little tid bit in all by himself?

Maybe Ritchie was hard of hearing! Of all the kids on TV, I thought he was the most "uncute" of all. Worse than Lumpy! I think the Dick Van Dyke show could have dropped the Ritchie character and he wouldn't have been missed.
June and Ward would never have allowed that screaming!

Default June

June all the way!!! Laura was ok but, like someone else said I don't think we really get to see her as a mother. Oh, in the DVD show the son's name is Richie just like on Happy Days, is'nt that something? Hope you all know what I mean.

Oh, I kinda felt sorry for little Richie in DVD. I have'nt only watched but a few eps., and the poor kid is mostly in his room it seems like. Maybe that's why he screamed so much, he wanted attention. But, its only a tv show and the show was supposed to center, around Dick. They probably really did'nt need a son.

lol or maybe Richie thought everybody else was hard of hearing. Just look him up on imdb.com and you can see he did very little acting jobs. I don't know if he gave it up himself or nobody would hire him.
