That's absurd beyond belief! I'm suspect of their reason for doing it. Even though they denied any political pressure, I don't buy it. Joking around about Grannies moonshine and other laugh it up inuendoes about liquor are prevalent in lots of The Beverly Hillbillies episodes. Heavy-handed scrutiny towards marijuana, and none at all to alcohol? It doesn't make sense. And Jethro (Max Baer) made good points about why was the show was left alone for all those years and just now it gets pummeled like that. Low blow!

I agree, kittflynn...this is, by far, the STOOPIDEST thing I've ever seen a network do, particularly one dedicated to tv purist like TV LAND and NICK @ NITE is supposed to be.
I mean, if you're going to censor the "dope" references (and, really, only a true dope would be offended by those remarks), then they might as well delete all the moonshine/"White Lightning"/Rhuematiz Medicine lines as well...oh, wait, if they do that, there'd only be two episodes they could show. Baffling. Truly baffling.

Unreal. With all the filth on network television now, they are worried about that? That's insane.

From the 60''s until now I've seen all types of programs on TV. We all have. But, for them to concentrate on the Beverly Hillbillies. C'mon..........
It's a little to late to screen out a couple of misunderstood words. Not with all the "MESS" being shown on TV today. We went from Donna Reed to Howard Stern & still nothing was done. :LEAVE JETHRO & GRANNY ALONE!!!

I'm not a fan of this show, don't worry this isn't a spam post. Anyway, I read this article and it is pretty interesting. Max did point out some very good points and I agree with each point he made. It's a simple 60s show.
I really had to applaud him when he was talking about MTV and all the hate rap. What about all these singers that love to show everything body wise? If they censor a little show like BH, then they should censor some of the stuff on MTV. Just wanted to find this post over on this board and comment on it. |
