TRIVIA - why is the last episode of 158 episodes #157?

Because episode #157, "The Last Chapter" actually conluded the the series succinctly, and was filmed at Desilu Studios entirely, and generally was a compilation of clips from previous episodes. Episode #158, "The Gunslinger", was filmed in part on a back lot, and at the studio where the wrap party was held. It was the last episode *filmed*, but not the last one aired. Right?

and, for the Bonus Round, which two DVDS writers put on their sixguns and boots for cameo appearances in "The Gunslinger"?

"The Last Chapter" is episode #157 of #158 because, although it was the last episode aired, the scenes for it were filmed after filming was complete for episode #156. Episode #158, "The Gunslinger", was filmed the next week as the last episode ever filmed.
