What is the episode number of the last Ralph/Richie episode? I've got an episode guide and can't find it.

There was no big two part ep where they said they were leaving. It was between seasons 7 & 8. They just vanished after season 7 and Marion said in the first ep of season 8 that they were in Greenland. Grrr, I'm still so angry at them for that! Opie done no good!

Their last episode was in 1980, it was called "Ralph's Family Problem" episode 167, last episode of season 7
It was also the final appearance of Jack Dodson as Mickey Malph |

Ron Howard left the series suddenly during the summer of 1980, after NBC offered him a contract to direct some TV movies. Until then, he hadn't ruled out returning for the eighth season, which is why there was no farewell episode at the end of the seventh year. (I don't know whether Donny Most decided to leave before or after Ron Howard left).
It's nice that Ron Howard came back for that two-parter during the last season, though. Those episodes really served as Richie's farewell. |
