I am a fan of Lucy's and was wondering if she really did not know how to sing, or sang the way she did to get laughs.

Lucy knew how to sing, that was just for teh show.

She was OK, and I don't think she sang professionally.

She was no professional singer. She was okay, but not great. What she did on ILL was exagerated though.

She was able to do a musical on Broadway in 1960 or '61, so she had to know how to sing, and she loved nothing more than to perform musical numbers on variety shows, and did them till about a year before she died! She had trouble moving and with her timing as she was 76, but she was still able to sing!
