Default I Need Some Advice

I have a credit card problem. I owe money on 2 credit card bills & my parents have been making payments. If it wasn't for my parents making payments i would probably be in jail right now. I hadn't made payments since September of last year. My father told me that if i don't pay them back for paying off my credit cards for me he's gonna call the police on me & have them lock me up. So what i wanna know is can the police lock me up if i don't pay them back? I wanna pay my parents back but it's so hard for me to find a job & keep one. I always end up getting laid off after a few weeks or a month so i'll never be able to pay them back. If my parents stop making payments i'd really be in trouble cause it's so hard for me to find a job & keep a job. Do ya'll know of anybody who's been to jail or prison before for the situation i'm in right now? I've never heard of anybody going to jail or prison in my situation. The 2 credit card bills i owe don't know i filed for bankruptcy 2 years ago on top of all this so i might have to do some jail time if they find out about that. If i had to go to jail i believe i won't do any serious time since i've never been in trouble with the law before.

I don't think you'd be sent to prison, but you're credit will be destroyed for years to come. I've known people who've filed bankruptcy because they couldn't pay their credit card bills. You might have to do that. No matter what though, you need to get a job and stop depending on your parents to support you.

I already filed for bankruptcy 2 years ago. I tried to get into a debt consolidation program but the credit card companies i owe don't wanna deal with debt consolidation programs cause they said it would take me forever to pay them back. It shouldn't matter how long it would take for me to pay them back as long as they got their money. I don't depend on my parents, i'm trying to get 2 jobs so i can pay off my debt but it's just so hard for me to get a job for some reason. I think the reason why i can't get hired that much is because the employee looks at my previous employment & sees all the jobs i've worked plus they look at how long i was on the jobs & that's why i can't never get any calls back about a job. I don't think a employee should hold that against a person for working a whole lot of jobs & not staying on them long enough. I've always tried to find a permanent job cause i've worked a lot of temporary jobs in the past. I'm tired of temporary work. I don't know what else to do, i think i'm gonna eventually end up in jail or homeless soon but i seriously hope i don't go to jail or prison.

I haven't used a credit card since last yr & i don't ever intend on using them again. So do u think i could still go to jail if the credit card companies that i owe find out i filed for bankruptcy?

I don't think so. Bankruptcy sounds like your best option.

Brian u need to read my statements more thoroughly. I just told u i filed for bankruptcy 2 years ago & after i did that i got these 2 credit cards in the mail & i went & spent them to the max & i hadn't made payments on them since September of last year. My parents just started making payments for me this past summer & they saved me cause i could've gone to jail cause one of the credit cards i owed, the lady who works for the collection agency told me that anytime u owe over $3,000 that's considered a felony. I've never heard of that before. A felony means jail time but i don't know for how long a person could get locked up for my situation.

Well, maybe it would help a little bit if you only got necessities[sp?], and maybe try getting a small job for now, then sell some things, that may help you a little bit.

Just out of curiosity how much are you in debt? I ask because my brother had around a $4000 credit card debt, and the creditors were real patient to work with him. They had him pay about $150.00 a month. I think he still has a couple thousand to go, but he's halfway there. The only thing I can really think of for you to do is keep trying to get a job. You may even have to end up working at Mcdonald's or somewhere like that, but at this point it sounds like you'll take just about any job. Well goodluck, I sincerely hope everything works out for you.

One his problems is that he says he can't hold on to a job so he can't make any payments because he has no income. I never heard of owing more than $3,000 is considered a felony. If that's true sell whatever you can!

Oh dear, I'm sorry about the credit card problem. My parents had a bit of a problem with the credit cards too. To put it simply, they overloaded on the credit cards. I was in about 2nd grade when this was going on. It was awful to go through the debt then, but in a way it was kind of a good thing. My parents learned their lesson. They scissored the cards up and vowed never to get another credit card. Yes, they had to file for bankruptcy too. Um, I think it was Chapter 11. I'm not really sure. It's been so long, but I think it was 11.

The best thing to do is find a really good job. Do you have a good reason for having so many jobs? Well, come to think of it I guess quitting or firing isn't a great reason. You'd better get 2 or 3 jobs. You might be dead tired, but you've got to get the debt cleared. Stick with these jobs. Don't work for 6 months and decide that you don't want the job anymore because it isn't fun or some excuse like that. Your prime objective for now should be clearing the debt out. If you get a job as a janitor or something, don't be ashamed of an occupation like that. It's bringing in money, right? I would also look through your collectibles and start selling stuff. Take it to ebay. You a guitar player? If you've got a guitar, you better sell it. Big items like that you can sell and you can always get a new one when you get back on your feet again.

Good luck.

I'm sure the credit card companies will work with you and make arrangements so you can pay them back a little bit at a time. You need to keep looking for a job. There are jobs out there. Work for a temp service if you have to even if you don't like it. Just make it your first priority to pay off these debts. This is just my guess because I've never had this problem but I don't think you would go to prison just for oweing a few thousand dollars especially if you are trying to work with the creditors The credit collectors want their money and you going to prison would just make it harder for them to get it. Your dad may have just told you that to scare you. I just don't understand why they approved you more credit when you just filed for bankruptcy 2 yrs ago. I thought it was 7 yrs before your credit became clear again. These credit card companies make me sick, trying to take advantage of younger people who don't yet know any better. They make credit cards sound like a good thing but don't explain that credit cards can be very bad if not used properly. I wish you luck in resolving this problem. I can only imagine what you must be going through but hopefully you have learned a lesson from all this and will come out of it a more responsible person.
