On the 2-parter, Wojo has his girlfriend move in with him, but I've never heard him refer to her since then. I watch every night, so I guess I can wait it out, but he doesn't seem to be living with anyone. For example, when he bought the parrot, he told Barney why birds are great because they don't tell you what to do, etc. It was an obvious reference to not having a woman tell you what to do.
Does anyone know if the live-in situation worked out? |

I dont believe it was ever refered to again in the series - as transient as everything else. Poor W.

As I understand it, they were thinking about doing a spin-off where they focused on the detectives' lives outside the squadroom. The episode where Wojo's woman moves in with him was kind of like a pilot for that spin-off. They made a similar episode earlier on with Wojo and Wentworth. I guess the idea never really went further than that. Maybe they learned their lesson after the Fish spin-off.

I recall that the Ropers were forced off Three's Company into a failed sitcom. Norman Fell and Audra Lindley were very vocal about their displeasure with the idea. |

As I understand it (again!), the Fish spin-off was something that the network people really wanted because Fish was such a popular character, but Abe Vigoda really wanted to do it, too. I think the Barney Miller group was reluctant to let him go because he was so popular, but they were under a lot of pressure to do a spin-off. And they felt bad about denying Abe Vigoda the opportunity to star in his own show. So Fish (the show) was born and the rest is history.

you know, if they are cutting a little over 2 minutes of footage from each ep, there could be all kinds of stuff going on we dont know about <G> Maybe enough to explain the title, "the desk"
<G> in the two parts eps "dietrichs arrest", i dont remember him getting reprimanded at all (its been awhile since ive seen), but in "the architect" is explained he's on restricted duty and cant even carry a gun. hes running around doing paperwork and really po'd about it when they all get taken hostage (by the cop who eventually plays dorsey for 5 minutes) They ask him what kind of cop doesnt carry a gun and he yells, "I dont wanna talk about it!!!" i think it would be fun to come up with whole storylines that could have been cut out for syndication. we did that on my website with a different show and had a ball. |

I read somewhere where they wanted to do a spinoff about Wojo and Wentworth's private life together. I guess that fell through once Linda Lavin left for Alice.

But, I think Harris and Dietrich, who were room mates (at one time on the show) would had made a remarkable spin off. I loved the interaction between those, two characters. |

^ I heard that, too. I always call Harris and Dietrich "reluctant best friends", much like Blair and Jo were on Facts of Life.
