I just recently saw Can You Hear the Laughter, also. My reaction is the same as yours; it was disturbing to see Freddy portrayed in such a way. Since I never personally knew him, I don't know what to believe, but I did read that the movie is based on a Playboy article, "Good Night Sweet Prinze", by Peter S. Greenberg. I just wonder if he knew Freddy Prinze.

Oh, and just for the record, I thought the acting in this movie was sad, especially when Jack Albertson's role was portrayed! For the sake of everyone who views Freddy Prinze in a positive light, I hope that this movie is just the product of someone's ill thoughts of him.

Please don't take any movie to heart that is
shown after someone dies. Everything I have
ever read portrayed Freddie in a very
positive light. Let's keep it that way. I
think he was lovely and no sleezy movie will
ever change my mind. Besides if they would
have played him as a kind and loving person
that would make for bad ratings.

Well the only thing I can say is - "His friends knew him best". The ex-girlfriend & his best friend knew him best. They both have never written a book about Freddie. If he in reality was like "that" character then I blame the drugs! I'm sure he wasn't a bag of chips to live with. His wife left him! I blame that darn habit of his!

I found this cast listing on IMDB
http://us.imdb.com/Credits?0078933

1. I don't see how they can call it a
"full" cast listing.

2. They credited Ed Brown not Jack Albertson.
like Ed Brown portrayed Jack Albertson.

------------------
Epstein: Once I connect the dots, that's that.

Chico: Clean Clean Clean! ::jumping up and down::
Ed Brown: Ed Brown's Garage, home of the dirty mural.
Louie: Stick out your can, Here comes the Garbarge man!

Only reason I got it was I really wanted to see it & it was $2.99 on E-BAY. Used but I did't care cuz I didn't want to spend much on it, In the beginning it wasn't too bad but then they made him seem like sleazy like his life was overtook by the drugs. They never showed any of his sweet moments with his Mom or JR or the religious side of him his mom portrays in her book. They portrayed him differently then the Freddie folks who've met & written about it on here have portrayed. I believe he was alot nicer than they portrayed in the movie.

At the end when he died it is sooo sad... You'll be breaking out the hankys bigtime... I went all to pieces at the end of it when he died. They portray him in a bad light & then he dies & it gets sooo sad... My hubby watched some of it with me & remembered watching it origionally in the 70's & he didn't like it... I won't watch that on the E-Story with anyone but my hubby cuz they get me too upset & I don't wanna break down in front of anyone else.

I'd love to see his Mom's book made into a movie. Now that was Freddie!

Red face

I hate that movie! The sad thing is that people who were his friends had maybe approved this story. They made him out to be a very ugly person. I remember it coming out a year after Freddie died.

No one said he was a young guy at the time. They didn't show the pressures he had. The overload of work. Or that he was crying out for help. For a young guy he worked hard and greedy people had their hands out. They just slammed him in my opinion. He was a machine........ And nobody cared..........

You're right & it made him out to be someone who was on a big star trip. Show us the real Freddie, the one who loved God & his mom & baby & was nice to his fans...

After looking over the casting credits, has anyone other than me noticed than none of the actors who worked on CAN YOU HEAR THE LAUGHTER were ever heard from again? I don't recognize any of the names...

Maybe it's Karma?

I done a little research on this one.
Kevin Hooks is a director and executive producer. He directed the movie The color of friendship. It is on the disney channel every so often. It is a good movie. He is the executive producer of City of Angels.
Melanie Chartof does a voice of Didi Pickles in both of the Rugrats movies.
Randee Heller was in the Karate kid part 3 movie.
Annette Charles was Cha Cha in the Grease movie.

Thumbs down

I just finished watching the movie for the 1st time.I can barley hold down my lunch.I couldnt even feel sorry for the character in the movie.Maybie its just cause to me no one can portray Freddie. And in that light especially. They didnt show any good in him at all.the only time you even hear of his mom that I caught is that he bought her a house.but I am glad I finally saw it instead of just wanting to see it, now I know its a HORRIBLE portrayal of him.

I've never seen the movie, but I hear nothing but bad things about it. Those movies that are cranked out after a celebrities death tend to only show the bad, so it can capitalize on the sensationalism, I guess. You'd think Kathy or his mother would have said "hey, wait a minute here" or something, but who knows, maybe they were powerless in the production of the film.
Our dear Freddie certainly deserved to be given more respect than that!
