Probably cause it's shorter Nate. I do both. If I'm typing something and i'm in a hurry, I type Xmas, But I wish people a Merry Christmas. So..

Good question. I use "X-mas" when I'm in a hurry and "Christmas" when I'm not. But I really don't know how the word "X-mas" got started..

I don't write xmas. It looks silly to me and I don't want to take the Christ out of Christmas.

yes that is at least ONE of the uses for it. I call it X mas. soe ofmy friends do too. im not christian nor are they, so er... yeah.

my friends who are atheist celebrate "x-mas" not "christmas" so thats what ive always interpreted it as.

That's correct.

It's what my global teacher told me, anyways. Christian is sometimes referred to as "Xian."

Because it's easier to write for some people (Those who say ur and U LOL) but for me it's because for so long I didn't know how to spell Christmas!

I use to spell christmas, "chirstmas."

Just like with the words, "friends" and "birthday."

Let me put a stop to that rumor right now. That's bull. People use X because it's shorter. Personally, I think it's unbecoming and lazy. But it sure isn't a non-Christian thing.
