Do you think that the Golden Girls would be as funny if they used all the same actresses but they where decades younger?

IMO - I dont.

Ummm... then they wouldn't be "Golden" Girls.

The title is a whole play on words... when you're "old," you're in your Golden years. Yet, they weren't old women -- they were still very active and exciting. That's what made the show what it was.

nope the whole show would have to change if they were all younger. Sophia wouldn't be in her 80's, and bet they would all still be married.

I agree with you and Superbatboy. With excellent writers' and lines, they had
much more spunk and attitude.
