Post Mike Douglas Show

I watched the M.D.S. and our poor Freddie was a little bit sick. He said he had the puerto rican flu. LOL! He was very funny in it. He also did a little ballet with Ben Vereen. The next week he was to cohost the show. He even left to go to the bathroom! He talked about getting his corvette stingray too. Then he talked a little about his success and then about drugs, how not to use them, there are other ways out. Wish he would have taken the other way. He loooked goood in his black outfit, kind of like a jumpsuit. The tape is a little jumpy in places but not bad considering the year. I think it is well worth it, but thats just my opinion. Well hope you don't think I'm rambling to much about it. Thanks

I'd like to see a pic of that!

I found on a website on the HOLLYWOORD SQUARES game show where they mention Freddie as being a guest:
http://www.geocities.com/screenjockey/guestsquares.html

This page tell about lstt episodes:
http://www.geocities.com/screenjockey/dixonwish.html

I hope they didn't lose the ones with Freddie in it....

Bella - We never tire of listening or reading about our Freddie! Don't be apoligizing!

Cheryl - You always give such good insight. Do you work with TJ? LOL I completely forgot that Freddie could've appeared on any TV game show of that era. He really worked hard didn't he. He burned himself out. Poor thing.

I have the game channel on T.V. I just wish I can see anything with Freddie on it. Let's see if any of our Freddie fans including me find any game show with him on it. I would love to see the Hollywood square version with him on it.

Thank-you Bella for sharing your views on this. I have placed my order and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. You are not rambling at all.

His words regarding the drugs just make me feel so sad.

Cheryl, that link was very informative, I hope they didn't lose them either. Did you see the question Peter Mashall asked Freddie? He asked him if it was possible to teach a pig to bow! And you probably guessed what he said! Eesnomyjob!!!!

Is HOLLYWOOD SQUARES on the GAME SHOW NETWORK? Just wondering since we don't have paid cable channels due to them not having cable on our part of our road & not being able to find a descrambler for our satellite dish...

Naw, I don't work with TJ LOL! Actually how I got that link was someone listed it on the Monkees newsgroup cuz the Monkees were on HOLLYWOOD SQUARES & a pic of them on the show was on the site. I just happend to look around the site & found the Freddie thing on there... Ya'll thought I had spent hours searching for Freddie on the internet LOL!

Thanks for the thanks Bella! I'm glad you liked the tape...I liked having him interact throughout the entire show....more of him to see. The ballet move had to be my favorite...
I'm afraid I'm going to be wearing out the VCR pausing and rewinding all the time....ahhh, it's worth it....

Hi, this is Dave. I'm the guy who found the tape originally...One of the things that is interesting is when Mike Douglas asks him about drugs. Do you notice that when Mike asks him "have you ever done the hard stuff?" Freddie kind of ducks the question. I don't know whether Freddie was just trying to be funny, or whether he really wanted to avoid answering that question (or both).

The part where Freddie does the ballet is my favorite too!! I pushed rewind alot on that part too. Yes Dave the part with the drugs, about him taking them, was probably a way out of it! The part that got me was when he said there are other ways out instead of taking drugs. We all wish he would have taken the other route.

When I first heard Mike Douglas ask that question about hard drugs, I thought it was too personal question, and he shouldn't have asked it. But the more I think about it, perhaps he is entitled to ask. The guest on the show - Freddie or anyone else - is free to answer a question or not answer it. There are always ways around answering a question you don't want to answer.

Nowadays on talk shows the producers go over all the questions in advance. But I think back in the 60s and 70s talk shows weren't as planned out as they are today. Freddie probably didn't know that question was coming.

Dave

Excellent point Dave. Just wanted to thank-you once again for making this videotape available to us. I just viewed it tonight and it was very emotional for me. This has become one of my most prized possessions.

Thank-you for giving him back to us for a little while.

I got to talking about Freddie with my hubby Mike tonite. Mike said he saw the Mike Douglas show the week Freddie hosted. He said he saw the episode where they surprised Freddie with a visit from his folks. He said Freddie was so happy to see them & was so touched that when he hugged them he cried a little & ended up reaching in his pocket & getting out his hankerchief & wiping his eyes with it. He said they had Mando on one episode that week., I would've loved to have seen that! Mike is so lucky to have seen those.

Hi, Dave and Bella,

I'm curious to know where you got the Mike Douglas tape? I want to see Freddie but I'm also interested in old TV shows too, especially those that aren't on anywhere now.

Thanks!
