Angry Joey

Is it just me, or does it seem like the writers are writing Joey to be even dumber than ever this season? We finally got to see another side of him last season, and now, it's like Joey being in love with Rachel never happened!

CARLTON: For a long time it gave me nightmares... witnessing an injustice like that. It's a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be. I can still hear them taunting him...'Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!' I mean, WHY COULDN'T THEY JUST GIVE HIM SOME CEREAL?!?

Thank You!!! I've been wondering how I missed the Joey lobotomy episode. This year they have him not realizing that he's been eating chicken (which is a bird - context of the episode), missing the parade, and other things that ticked me off that I can't remember!!!

The chicken story was the thing that bugged me the most! No one could be THAT stupid! Although it was funny, it was kinda stupid when Joey didn't know how to lie. He's lied plenty of times on the show and had no problem with it in the past! I know Joey never was the brightest crown in the box, but like I said, we finally got to see another side of him last season, and now it as if it never happened!

There are many things showcasing his extreme stupidity this season, but they have temporarily slipped my mind. I'll post the rest whenever I remember them!

----

Phoebe: [imitating Chandler] OK, could that report BE any later?
Chandler: I don't sound like that.
Joey: Oh, yes you do.
Ross: The hills are alive with the sound...OF music!

Yea it does seem like the writers of this season are not writing the characters consistently, but just to get a laugh or two in.

They had a chicken and a duck as a pet for crying out loud!
Thanks for reminding me about the lying thing, that annoyed me as well. He's been lying to women since episode 1 and they've had episodes based upon him lying - besides which he's an actor. I did like the turn they were taking with his character last season but it seems they've decided to give up on that.

I've always enjoyed the lack of common sense the writers have given Joey, but I think that this season, it's just too much! Hopefully, this won't go on much longer! Maybe they just got tired of coming up with stories for the "new" Joey.

[After Monica gets a disastrous haircut.]
Ross: How's Monica?
Phoebe: She's calmed down a bit. I put a clip on one side, which seems to have stopped the curling.
Ross: How's the hair?
Phoebe: I'm not gonna lie to you Ross. It doesn't look good.
Joey: Can we see her?
Phoebe: No, your hair looks too good. I think it would only upset her.
Rachel: Oh.
Phoebe: Ross, you can go on in.

I disagree about Joey being prtrayed as an idiot as a negative thing. Although i did like what they did with his character last season, it was beggining to sound like a soap opera. Not what one looks for in a comedy series!

I just watched an episode from the first season and Joey wasnt nearly as stupid back then! He actually made smart comebacks to Chandler and only occasionly said a stupid line. Now, he is a complete moron that says stupid and unfunny predictable lines.

Joey is okay, it is Ross that is dumb. The writers are messing his character up badly. I don't know if it is Ross the character or the actor David who is getting worse. I just think Ross is the stupid character in the show.

Joey makes me roll nowadays. Ross isn't dumb, in some ways, though he's pointless, he's funnier.

"Ross....the Divorce Force"

The prime example of Joey's dumbness and general weirdness was Season 9, with the baby proofing episode.

You know, where he can't open the drawer, the fridge or the toilet? "Now I can't do anything I want."

In that episode, he also showed some cunning, in making his excuses to Chandler about the loan to Monica.

"This is the fastest I've ever thought! I'm on a roll!"

I just can't stand Ross anymore. He is really trying to be funny now a days in the episodes.

Now they have him and Joey in another STUPID love triangle. What is this their 3rd time now? I hate those, this is a comedy, not a soap opera or drama.
