That's a pretty awful joke! But I know what you mean. There have been several occasions in my formative years where I haven't understood a joke only for it to dawn on me several years later.

My dad told me a really bad joke once that he had to explain it to me because I didn't get it.The joke was. What's Jimmy Dean's favorite holiday?
Groundhog DayI didn't get it at all until he explained that Jimmy Dean makes sausage and it's made from ground hog.
My dad has a real weird sense of humor.
