Question Am I right or wrong?

I asked permission one of the Freddie Prinze websites if I could use a few of their sound clips and they politely refused. When I politely asked them to remove the episode guide which was copied word for word (with my modifications and original airdates), I was told I was harrassing them and to stop bothering them. When I asked where they got the episode guide, they said they got it from another site.

Does it make it any more right if they got it from another site when it originally came from mine? Nobody has ever asked me for permission to use the episode guide. I would have no problem granting permission as I believe the internet is about sharing.

Would it be any more right if I downloaded these sound clips from another site then put them on my own, wouldn't I be doing the same thing?

Please give me some honest feedback on this.

I do not want to start any big arguments on this, I just would like some thoughts on this. Shouldn't you treat others like you want to be treated?

It was not taken from your site, and as a courtesy, I said I would re-word it even though I did nothing wrong. There are only so many ways to describe an episode. Please get the facts in line. You also said 5 sites had your guide. I hope you are also asking them to remove or re-word theirs. The bottom line is that because the sound clips would not be shared, the guide has become a problem. A reason was given, and that should suffice. This whole thing was supposed to be about fun and keeping our sites as individual and interesting as possible.

Peko, I thought you would post under your registered name. That's neat how you can block people on AOL, I wish i could do that. I can count the number of sites that are using the guide if you would like. I have no problem people using it but nobody has ever asked me for permission to use it or any photos which I happen to have on the site.

If you wanted your site to be individual, you should not have used an episode guide that has been 'cloned' on other sites, yet deny people use of your own sound clips.

I agree with you tj.
A site is not individual if you use things from other sites, but i thought thre main reason behind all of these sites was to remember Freddie and keep his memory alive.
I believe we are all hungry for info and pics of Freddie and everyone should share and get along.

I agree with you as well T.J. I think that it should be a common courtesy to ask someone if you can use something off another person's site. If someone wanted to use something off my site I wouldn't have a problem with it...even if they used it word for word...as long as they asked first. I have gotten pictures from other sites but have always asked or have given something back in return. And I have a poem that is on someone else's site...but they asked first. It's common courtesy and respectful.
What's this about blocking AOL users from a site???

TJ,
The site www.gidgetonline.com has the "Loooooking Good" soundfile on it. I don't believe the site owner would have a problem with you using it as she has no copyright disclaimer on her site. Might be worth a look-see.

I hope no one minds that I have borrowed some pics off of some other CATM Sites to use on my site. I am using some of them in different ways than on the origional site. With some pics I have changed them around, giving them different backgrounds or putting 2 of Freddie in the pic for different effects.

I plan to give them credit by listing that I am giving credit to all CATM/Freddie Sites & saying the credits belong to the site I got them from who are the copyright holders & the pics are used to decorate the site.

I did take the Episode guide from here & reword it to tell the whole story of CATM. I intend to give the credit to SITCOMS ONLINE. Also I did copy the Freddie Prinze story & WHEEEONES & BROWNSVILLE stories from the boards. I intend to give all of them & SITCOMS ONLINE credit. In fact any info I have copied from the boards, I intend to give the credit to SITCOMS ONLINE & whoever wrote it so they can all get the credit for it...

If I do leave anyone out of the crdits just let me know & I will add you to the credits as I don't want to leave anyone out. Hope ya'll don't mind. But it's my only way of getting stuff for the site. I am gonna have on there some pics of Freddie & Mando I took off the TV.

I am also listing all the CATM/FREDDIE sites in my links page. If you see I have left any sites out, just let me know & I will add it to my site. So many site so keep up with. Hope no one minds as I want to give the credit where it is due.

Oh yeah, I borrowed the CATM opening theme & closing theme from somewhere. So if I go tit from here just let me know & I'll credit ya. The Sammy Davis JR singing the CATM THEME SONG that was on here, I saw it on another site. Since I forget which site I got it from, I'll just credit you with it.

I am using some other sounds files from CATM. I taped them off the tv with a handheld tape recorder & the played it in front of my puters microphone taping it as it played. Not the greatest sound quality but better than nothing. Once I get my site done, If someone borrows them, no problem. Just list my site in your links. I believe in sharing.

I looked over Peko site again & any of the pics that I have that are on her site, I got elsewhere...

Let me first clarify one thing. I have another website and have never or will never deliberately copy something without asking. I am not that type of person and I resent being portrayed as that. I have also loaned out tons of pictures of Davy Jones that I took personally to people.

I don't think I should have to defend myself for something I did not do. As for the episode guide, it comes out of a book, anyone can purchase it from Amazon. It's a great book. It is unfortunate that this has happened. I did not have a problem with any of you. I don't even check your sites, I don't care. I am very careful not to even repeat the same articles. I haven't asked for articles either. I know info is limited, and feel funny asking someone for stuff. We all work hard, but stuff is so limited. On my other site, there is enough info so that none of our sites keep repeating the same information & pictures over and over. That is not the case with Chico and the Man. Now I know how DeDe must have felt and I can't blame her sometimes. Does there always have to be someone to gang up on? This issue has nothing to do with anyone else and it caused more trouble than it should have by being brought here. This is ludicrous. Why is the judge and jury out here. So much for support.

How can you sit there and say you've never copied anything from another site when that episode guide with my modifcations and original airdates is right there on your site? You've made no previous mention of owning the book, you said you got it from another site. Did you ask the site you copied and pasted it from for permission? Did you pay the $90 or $95 it sells for Amazon?

The biography you have up also comes from the biography that was first posted on my site - you reworded some of it and took some things out and added others, but still it came from somebody else's site. Please let me know if you've asked Alex Gallardo if you could use it, you certainly did not ask me. I certainly think he deserves some credit for that.

I think your being a little two faced. On one hand, you want your site to be original and individual and you help your self to other information from other sites but on the other hand you don't want to give back? That's a common courtesy.

All I want is a little respect, maybe a thank you for the information. Or maybe just an apology. I have no problem with you using the episode guide if your so inclined.

If you don't intend to share your sound files, then you should remove your disclaimer.

Your site is not the only source of information that is out there you know. And by the way, the book is $20.00. If you paid 95.00 you got ripped off. Oh, and now you know my financials too, how do you know what I can or cannot afford anyway? I don't even know you, TJ. You have no right to ask me personal questions anyway. Nobody does that to you. I don't account to you. You are breaking your own message board rules. This is going on too far. You don't even know me and I would appreciate it if you would stop trying to hurt and bully me. It doesn't matter what I say anyway, you will continue to not listen and state what you want to. I don't really care. So now you got your wish, I will no longer be a part of this board or post any longer. Now you can talk about me and hurt me even more. Its been great, but when something fun turns ugly, it's time to move on.

To TJ, Sir, I am very sorry for how this has unfolded. I just want to say that we all appreciate YOU so very much. I feel that You are the cause of all this love, happiness and joy at having a GREAT site to go to and discuss and share our thoughts, feelings and love for Freddie Prinze, Sr. Yours was the first one I found after years of searching. Yours was the first and the BEST. I do not mind saying that we refer to yours as "The Board" and we are "Board Members". I check your site out when I don't go to any others. Yours is lively and vibrant. I cannot tell you how happy I am due to your hard work and efforts here. I have made friends that understand me and have like feelings regarding "Our Prinze". I have gained a wealth of information here. I felt such a void prior to finding your site. Each and every page from the opening, is a valuable resource for all of us.

I understand your feelings. I look up to all of you for building your wonderful sites. I, 1) do not have the skills or equipment to create one and 2) would not want to infringe on anyone's submissions. Therefore, I am just delighted to be able to enjoy the wondrous sites you all have created. I have you all on my favorites list. I admire and appreciate all of you for the dedication and devotion you have exhibited.

I hope that Peko will stay with us and that everyone will stay with The Board. I look forward everyday to checking in with you guys. I have grown quite dependent upon all of you and your input. As one of the other members stated, we are a precious few and I would like for us to remain intact. I miss any of you, even if you are off on vacation.

Freddie's life and memory are our driving force, right? It is not by accident that we all have met here. I have experienced so many emotions here and all have helped me better deal with the loss of this phenomenal man. I just want the love and laughter to continue. What we have done here is a fitting honor and tribute to Freddie. He was magical and anything connected with him has the same characteristic.

I am looking forward to all of us meeting one day. You are all important to me and now a part of me. I only hope we can keep things just as sweet, kind, and dear as they always have been.

Thank-You for listening.

I don't think anybody is trying to bully you Peko. I think T.J. has a valid gripe. When we all started looking for Freddie sites it was his that we hit first as it was just about the only one. I think you're getting aweful upset for someone who has done nothing wrong and has no one to account to.
T.J. has never posted anything on this board but information to help us along, or an occasional warning when things got too heated. But other than that he has let us have free reign here to voice our opinions. When he came to the board with, what I feel is a legitimate complaint, you took offense and decided to pack up your toys and go home.
Grow up and learn to share. If you take...give back.

I agree with ya atlangel. I am enjoying this board & it was the first I've found & the one that seems to be the busiest of all the Freddie sites. Hopefully folks like Peko will stay & enjoy the boards. I feel when it comes to Freddie, sharing is what it is all about. There's not alot out on him so it's only natural some stuff will be duplicated. I'm trying to make my site kinda different from the others. Just hope it turns out okay.

I so agree with every eloquent word you wrote Atlangel. I have felt as though "the board" and the subsequent sites that sprang up from it were all here to honor Freddie's memory. I feel very connected to all of the "board members" and truly hope to continue to see all members feel free to post. Having been one of the members who in the past has had negative posts/and or posts I didn't agree with directed towards myself I do know how frustrating/confusing it can be.
Everyone has their own opinions/feelings and should be able to be honest when posting. The enjoyment, camraderie, and friendship I have found at this board enabled me to look past the momentary "grief" the posts caused to continue to access the genuine love found for Freddie here. Please Peko, nothing is unsolvable and you would be greatly missed.
